We’ve got a new DCS World Weekend News update and it has some interesting information about the upcoming DCS World update. Some core updates are on the way as are some updates for both the Hornet and the Viper. Let’s have a look!

Core updates coming

The news from Eagle Dynamics this week is quite interesting with a bunch of fixes coming in the next update. The fixes run the range from air AI updates, ground AI updates, weapons behavior updates for the AIM-54C, R-27R/ER, and AI units being able to use APWKS properly. China Asset Pack also gets a new ATGM called the HJ-12.

The other big thing that’s getting an update is the terrain engine. This one made me sit up because it sounds like another core update that should hopefully net some performance improvements. Better VRAM usage, disk streaming, and CPU utilization improvements should enhance terrain rendering performance. Hopefully this continues to improve DCS frame rate.

A lot of this is slated for the next DCS update and the change log for it should be quite the read.

F-16 and F/A-18 are getting some updates

Though we’ve seen several releases since these two modules have released, DCS: F-16C and DCS: F/A-18C are still two projects that are getting some big updates.

Let’s start with the F-16C which Eagle Dynamics reports will see fixes to the aircraft’s radar system. The F-16’s has seen added radar features over the last several months and some of those have made the radar less reliable. It looks like the latest fixes should solve some of that with fixes to the TWS, RWS, and dual track modes. Maverick slaving to SPI fixes are inbound too.

Another big change for the Viper is the ability to select if you want the FCS to dead zone to work with a realistic setting or match exactly with what’s in the Controls Manager. It should hopefully settle the debate on how the F-16’s controls should react and make it easier to manage as force feedback joysticks return to viability in the hardware arena.

The F/A-18C is getting some attention too. Adjustments are coming to the HMD (JHMCS), radar behaviour, training missions, and bomb fuzes as well. The fuze fixes will hopefully solve all of the issues that have been experienced there.

Further afield, the Hornet is set to get a re-work of the flight model and FCS. Some features are planned for Multi-Sensor Integration (MSI) which sounds interesting. Also a few updates for loft symbology and data.

  2. wow every day the ch-47 seems more and more like an unsupported cash grab then a module. Only half done and ignored not a good look at all

    1. Hoping we see some updates on that one shortly. They did provide some new information on stability control (amongst other things) last week or the week before. I’m keen to start flying it some more.

    2. I have the CH-47 and it’s perfectly usable in-game.

      It was never going to be a super popular module like the 4th Gen jets, so I can understand why those continue to get updates (especially when they’re 4-5 years old already!
