A new Matt Wagner video is out and this one is about the DCS: F-16C Viper and some new features that are coming that will let you adjust the control scheme for the aircraft. The F-16 itself has a unique control scheme that is difficult to translate into the wide variety of flight sim hardware options and so Eagle Dynamics are going to offer some options.

Stick setting video

A new set of options under the Special Features section of the DCS World options menu has been opened up for DCS: F-16C. Previously, the jet was configured using a control scheme similar to that of the real jet and the system was tuned to work with a force sensitive stick. That kind of stick is very uncommon (although I know a few do exist) in the hands of flight simmers with most of us having a spring-based self centering stick. The new setting lets you set a more linear profile similar to other modules. You can also adjust the deadzone areas.

Hopefully this change to the Viper helps alleviate some of the control configuration issues that many have reported over the years.

Ahh yes the F6F Hellcat. Not a reveal but nice to see it on a list somewhere.

  3. ED’s Viper module has always been pretty friendly to modded HOTAS Cougar users–almost plug and play, 1:1 with BMS (remember Dunc’s profile?). The rocker dogfight switch is even modeled, perfectly, which is rare, since most anything else has no idea how to utilize this function on the throttle.

What do you mean by that? Isn’t it not just a shortcut into the air to air modes, no matter what mode you were in before? One for close combat, one for bvr (plus dual target tracking).

      1. Well, most sims/programs don’t understand that when the rocker is in neutral the left or right position modes(MRM/Dogfight) should be cancelled and return to whatever the UFC has selected as the master mode(In the Viper’s case–in other sims/programs the left and right settings should simply be cancelled to a neutral mode–or even treat the middle setting as a switch of its own).

  4. So good, the viper without those deadzones. Should have been like that on release.
