We’ve got new information and a new update for DCS world in the last couple of days. The latest DCS World update brings in a ton of updates for a huge array of modules. There’s also some news surrounding development of DCS: Afghanistan and a new DCS: F-16C Viper campaign is available from SorelRo. Let’s have a look!
A new update has arrived
DCS 2.9.9.2280 is here with a lengthy list of updates coming to multiple modules in DCS World. There are updates to the core of the sim such as tweaks to the AIM-120 to avoid missile twitching at low velocity or the addition of New Zealand to the country list. Plus there are dozens of fixes to a huge variety of items. The DCS: F-16C, F/A-18C, AH-64D, CH-47F, Mi-24P, Mirage F1, C-101, MB-339, JF-17, F-4E, F-14, and others have seen updates small and large.
One of the updates adds some of the AFCS functionality to the DCS: CH-47F which should have a fairly large sized impact on how the helicopter flies. 47Driver on YouTube who is a real world CH-47 pilot goes over some of the details of what the update offers and provides a fascinating insight into the aircraft.
There have been updates to maps too from DCS: South Atlantic and Kola to DCS: Syria which saw a big update that includes new airfields and areas of the map opened up with more detail. DCS: Normandy 2 saw new airbases added too!
Afghanistan update

Eagle Dynamics reports work is progressing well on DCS: Afghanistan. This comes about a week after the last update responded to community criticism and critique over the launch of DCS: Iraq pre-orders while the Afghanistan map is still needing quite a bit of attention. It’s good to see some development details as part of that response.
Updates to the map seem far reaching from the road network to the ground mesh resolution. Geometry artifacts have been corrected, new unique airfield objects have been added, and normal mapping across the entire map have been updated for better low-altitude visuals.
Here’s a little more on what they are doing:
Our team is mainly focused on finalising the East region of the Afghanistan map. Work on the airfields of Bagram, Bamiyan, Gardez, Ghazni, Jalalabad, Kabul, Khost, Sharana, and Urgun is going well and the final stages of creating unique scenes for these airfields and their operational logic within the DCS Core is underway.
We have achieved significant progress on new roads, rivers, and lakes, as well as unique object models for the capital city of Kabul. We look forward to your feedback.
That sounds good!
New Viper campaign
DCS: F-16C Viper has a new campaign! SorelRo’s Dragon’s Fury is a 15-mission story-driven campaign with over 4,000 voice overs, featuring detailed briefings, kneeboard files, and supporting documentation.
