Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is just a week away and we have release info

Yep! It’s true! Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is almost exactly a week away now and things are going to be ramping up in a big way as people anticipate the launch of the new sim. The exact timing of the release has been revealed and it’s a little different from the last time around so here’s what we’ve just learned.

We’ve got this nice little graphic released by the Microsoft team in the last couple of hours showing off what is happening and when. If you’re in the eastern time zone of North America, the release time will be November 19 at 11:00 EST. On the other hand, if you’re in London its 16:00 GMT.

Unlike with the release last time around, Kiribati won’t be getting the launch first. This tiny island in the south Pacific suddenly became the centre of attention for Microsoft Flight Simulator fans when it became clear that it had released their first. Users scrambled to change their location to Kiribati to get the update first. I do appreciate that they have added the tiny island nation to the release chart. I had a good chuckle!

    Looking forwards to MSFS 2024 and all of the high quality high fidelity airliners to come. Speaking of airliners, are you excited for the FSLabs A321ceo? It’s a bit of an interesting decision for FSLabs to continue going ahead with their (presumably) high fidelity A321ceo as Fenix has already bet them to it for a while. But I think that this would be healthy for the competition as both parties would be incited by each other’s projects to better their own. The revelation of FSLabs A321ceo could also mean that they are going to do the A319ceo and A320ceo aircraft as well. They could really be Fenix’s most direct rival. Sorry I got a bit off topic here but I just wanted to know if you knew of FSLab’s A321ceo for MSFS.

      I am writing some news on the FSLabs A321 but am waiting for their full announcement for more context and details – so far its a kind of leak/semi official confirmation from the devs on the forum. A full news release is still forthcoming.

      I’m not particularly excited by the announcement. The Fenix is probably partially wasted on me and I suspect the A321LR coming in MSFS 2024 is actually going to be enough for my uses. I’m not sure how the market is going to react to yet another A320 series airliner in the mix. Even if it does end up being excellent!

    I had assumed that the release date would get postponed (like the majority of software releases, especially in gaming).

    Many sim updates have been pushed back (even if by a few days) throughout MSFS2020 history so I wouldn’t be surprised if the release of an entire new version wasn’t as well.

    Considering all the moving parts of this release with all the various third party contributions I would be surprised if it does release in a week’s time.

      They seem to generally have really excellent product management, they have a good handle on the product, and it looks like they will hit the date as planned… But I do expect some turbulence in the first weeks. I’m guessing the core of the sim should be alright but a lot of third party stuff is going to take a bit of catching up… I wouldn’t be surprised if that took months.

    I find that it is a bizarre and somewhat risky investment for FSLabs to make the A321ceo (with the likelihood of an A319 and A320ceo follow up to the A321ceo for MSFS 2020), especially when Fenix has bet them to it by a country mile, and with MSFS 2020 becoming obsolete and third party development soon going to MSFS 2024. Therefore that is why I think the chances of their A321ceo selling well are very poor. However, there is one trick that they could use. Make the A318 and sell it and the rest of the A320ceo family as a pack for 20-50% less than all of Fenix’s products combined. This is the only way I think that they have a chance against Fenix. In my opinion they’d have to do this and also get onto MSFS 2024 as quickly as possible and then do more addons like the A220, A320neo, A330ceo, A330neo, and A340 families (I apologise for the ramble).

    Which edition to choose…love the chinook but do not know anything about the implementation…

      That’s a tough call. I do want to give the MSFS CH-47 a try… we now have a few versions of that helicopter available on the flight sim market.

      If you’re like me and want to just fly all the planes… the Deluxe edition is where its at 🙂
