A new developer update has appeared on the Microsoft Flight Simulator website and it gives us a little bit of an insight into what’s happening to resolve the sim’s many problems. Chief among them are a series of patches and updates. Here’s what we know!
Updates in the coming weeks
The update begins by reporting that servers have recovered from the issues experienced at launch. That’s encouraging news and my experience has been that things are now operating at a much better clip than they were a week ago. Still, I’ve heard some report that they are still struggling and its unclear if that’s a server issue or something more local.
Going beyond that, stability improvements is the goal for the next update which is slated to arrive on December 2nd. That update will then be followed by a lager one coming on December 9. These two patches follow the hotfix released last week. It’s been a hectic schedule for the nascent sim to say the least!
Meanwhile, the developers have discovered that some add-ons are causing serious problems with the new sim and so the decision has been made to temporarily disable all non aircraft add-ons so that they can assess the issue. Here’s more from the update:
Recent reports from the community show that some 3rd party add-ons are causing significant issues, including preventing some users from entering the simulator. Until we identify which content is causing these issues, we will temporarily deactivate all MSFS 2020 non-aircraft content from MSFS 2024.
Unfortunately, it seems like the goal of 99% compatibility with add-ons has not come to pass. Though developers have reported improved compatibility already, it’s not quite what was hoped.
The December 9 update will give us the ability to activate and deactivate content and a safe boot option which should help mitigate the issue. Is the problem is related to a small handful of add-ons doing something they aren’t supposed to be or is this a more widespread problem. Hopefully their temporary measures will reveal the issue.
