A new developer update has appeared on the Microsoft Flight Simulator website and it gives us a little bit of an insight into what’s happening to resolve the sim’s many problems. Chief among them are a series of patches and updates. Here’s what we know!

Updates in the coming weeks

The update begins by reporting that servers have recovered from the issues experienced at launch. That’s encouraging news and my experience has been that things are now operating at a much better clip than they were a week ago. Still, I’ve heard some report that they are still struggling and its unclear if that’s a server issue or something more local.

Going beyond that, stability improvements is the goal for the next update which is slated to arrive on December 2nd. That update will then be followed by a lager one coming on December 9. These two patches follow the hotfix released last week. It’s been a hectic schedule for the nascent sim to say the least!

Meanwhile, the developers have discovered that some add-ons are causing serious problems with the new sim and so the decision has been made to temporarily disable all non aircraft add-ons so that they can assess the issue. Here’s more from the update:

Recent reports from the community show that some 3rd party add-ons are causing significant issues, including preventing some users from entering the simulator. Until we identify which content is causing these issues, we will temporarily deactivate all MSFS 2020 non-aircraft content from MSFS 2024.

Unfortunately, it seems like the goal of 99% compatibility with add-ons has not come to pass. Though developers have reported improved compatibility already, it’s not quite what was hoped.

The December 9 update will give us the ability to activate and deactivate content and a safe boot option which should help mitigate the issue. Is the problem is related to a small handful of add-ons doing something they aren’t supposed to be or is this a more widespread problem. Hopefully their temporary measures will reveal the issue.

  1. I wonder how big the market demand for non aircraft addons will be in MFS2024.

    1. If it includes scenery then huge but otherwise maybe quite small.

      1. Is there really so added value in scenery now?

One of the best things about MFS2024 is it´s small footprint size on the drive, installing and updating

scenery can be such a tedious thing, in some flight sims it can amount to hundred of gigabytes in update patches.

So why do that on purpose in mfs2024 if the bar is already so high. Maybe a few special places, but otherwise…

however I would instantly buy DCS Vietnam.

      2. MSFS 2020 and 2024 scenery purchases are less about wide areas and more about adding detail to some smaller more specific pieces – I’ve got a lot of airports and it gives a ton of character and sometimes fixes problems with the generic offerings.

We’re all still hoping DCS Vietnam eventually happens!

  2. Still waiting to see what happens before I buy it.

How big an install is it on your PC?

    1. Around 50gb

      1. My install is allegedly just 12GB but I don’t think that includes the roaming data.

    2. I think this sim is going to be great but it has some very rough edges that need to be smoothed over first. I’m fairly certain we’ll get there!

  3. We are off to a rough start, but I think we will eventually have something remarkable with time. Feels like there was not enough testing, but sometimes just rolling it out, gets problems solved. I can work with what I have, for now. I also split my time with DCS, so there is enough to keep me more than busy. I still have high hopes and do believe it will get better with patches.
