Boeing 777 fans can rejoice as PMDG have just released the 777F for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The widebody airliner converted (or built) for freight operations has just released on the PMDG store. We’ve got the pricing as well as some news surrounding the 777-300ER and 777F conversion to MSFS 2024. Let’s go!

Freighter launch

The second of four planned releases featuring the Boeing 777, PMDG have just released the 777F freighter variant of the jet on their storefront. The freighter is on offer for $54.99 USD coming in cheaper than the $74.99 priced 777-300ER.

Features include PMDG’s usual commitment to offering high fidelity simulation of all of the jet’s systems. Unique to this version is the cargo deck which is fully detailed including the deck itself as well as the jet’s massive cargo door.

That includes some visual options that show off different types of cargo in the hold. One of the advertised options includes a couple of historic cars being transported. The detailing on these cargo objects looks impressive!

Upgrade plans

The release is focused on Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and not 2024 just yet. PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo reports that the team are waiting on an update to the sim to allow C++/WASM developed aircraft to be tested. The fix is apparently on its way and is coming in one of the next updates to the sim.

Once they are able to start bringing their aircraft into the sim, they intend to bring the 777-300ER and 777F into 2024. They also report that their plan is to offer a free upgrade path for both of these aircraft or at least if they are able to. There’s a slightly lengthy description of what could happen if a free upgrade pathway isn’t available.

There is one very important asterisk that I want to point out here: This plan is based upon statements made by Microsoft that indicate to us that a $0 cost, free upgrade path will be made available for us to give MSFS2020 users access to a native-built MSFS2024 version of their 2020 purchased products. If, due to circumstances beyond PMDG’s control, we find that this expectation is not accurate, has been misstated, misunderstood or is found not to be possible due to policies within the MSMP system, some minimum purchase requirement may required of customers in MS Marketplace. Under those circumstances, we intend only to require the very minimum purchase that MS will allow for such a transition.

Robert S. Randazzo

Robert also reports that they should have news on the 737 and DC-6 upgrade pathways for those aircraft in a few days. Waiting to hear on that.

One response to “PMDG launches 777F and talks upgrade path for MSFS 2024”

  1. Well, considering their 777 in Prepar3D had (has) a $107 minimum price tag, I think this one’s a bargain!

Honestly not sure I’m going to get it, tho. I’m happy with the 737 BBJ1, and really only want the 747 as the next jump up (and there are now “a few” included with v2024 to tide me over 😉 )

But, if it ever goes on sale, and I have some extra cash… 🙂
