If you’ve been waiting to hear more from Just Flight on their previously announced Tornado GR1 project, wait no more because we’ve got a fresh update focused on the swing wing strike fighter coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator. Let’s have a look!

Nearly Tonka time!

We’ve got news on the Tornado GR1 and it sounds quite promising. While the programming team had to step away to help finish up the Avro RJ, the Tornado’s artists have completed their work on the exterior and interior refining everything and giving it 8K resolution textures. They’ve also been working on liveries with the German Air Force and Navy getting a variety of schemes – the more colourful come from some of the Tigermeets. Just Flight report that liveries will include a variety of standard and special schemes from the Royal Air Force, Italian Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force as well as the German Air Force and Navy as mentioned.

A full time dedicated coder is returning to the jet in the new year which they say will significantly speed development.

Just Flight are not quite certain which sims they are going to support with this.

With regards to MSFS 2020 / MSFS 2024 compatibility, it’s still undecided which simulators we will be able to support with the Tornado, as this largely depends on the number of differences that we find within the SDK as development progresses. This is a decision we will have to take fairly soon, however, so we’ll keep you informed once a decision has been made.

We’ll have to wait and see what they decide to do.

  1. The Just Flight Tornado for MSFS is looking good already, though I will admit that I’m more excited for the coming AviaStorm Tornado for DCS. But I guess we’ll have to wait until 2027 because it takes about 4-5 years for high fidelity DCS aircraft from third party developers to go from announcement to finally being released.

    1. AviaStorm will come I’m very hopeful of that but yeah I expect it will be several years as you suggest. The Just Flight rendition won’t have any weapons but it will probably be a lot of fun!

  2. JustFlight said that they’re finally bringing CFD to their Piper Arrows! Makes a BIG difference in how well the addons in MSFS fly & handle, so hopefully they back-port it to all their other addons, too – and hopefully to the Tonka!

Looking forward to this one – I have their last version, the ADV, for Prepar3D, and it’s an incredible aircraft! (Sadly, it wasn’t quite as good an addon as they usually produce, presumably due to the lack of consumer interest in P3D at the time of release…).

Anyhow, if it’s as well produced as the Hawk & Vulcan, this will be a Must Buy! 🙂

    1. I’m very excited about this upgrade! I’ve got some cross country trips with the Piper Arrow planned and I’ll be awaiting the update.

Still need to get the Vulcan! It’s on my wish list for now when I have some time to tackle it.
