In what has now become a well established tradition, Eagle Dynamics, the folks behind DCS World, release a cinematic trailer called “DCS World and Beyond” where they offer up a showcase of everything that DCS World is and hopes to be. The date for this year is January 16!

Trailer time

2025 and Beyond is coming! Every year we’ve had a slightly different type of presentation but every one of them has been a combination of product showcase, cinematic masterpiece, and teaser of products to come.

In the 2024 and Beyond trailer we saw some of the things that came to DCS World in the past year. The Afghanistan map, OH-58D, F-4 Phantom, the CH-47F, the heavy metal assets (B-52 and B-1B among them), the new deck crew features for Supercarrier, as well as the usual array of products already released.

We also saw things that haven’t yet come with a lot of focus on the Pacific WWII assets that have yet to materialize or the AI model, the A-6 Intruder, and La-7. There’s a lot that hinges on the “Beyond” part of the experience, still its an exciting moment for fans of the DCS series to see what’s coming.

The preview poster for DCS World 2025 gives us a bit of a tease of what to expect. The date, January 16 is obvious, but if you look closely you can see the faint outline of the Eurofighter Typhoon, a graphic representing the frontlines and some very typical DCS World icons on it, and what looks like apartment buildings and palm trees along the bottom. Getting a closer look at Heatblur and TrueGrit’s Typhoon would be interesting and the map along the top suggests something to do with the long in development campaign system. That may be reading into it a little too much, but speculate we will right up to January 16…. and beyond.

We’ll see what we can learn then and see what Eagle Dynamics teases at the end because they nearly always do!

  1. Yes let the speculation begin!

Dynamic Campaign – looks like it doesn’t it, though going to be a hard once to sell in a video which as you note are usually visual/cinematic art.

Typhoon- interesting but we all know from the list of items shown in the last one it doesn’t mean it’s going to be 2025. Personally I’m looking forward to the F-104, A-6 AI and MiG-29 over the Typhoon but understand why people want it.

Map – Vietnam would amazing but there’s been no hints of it being worked on from ED or 3rd parties (but this is part of the fun with speculation isn’t it).

    1. Top imagine could also mean improvements for the mission editor drawing tools

Regards Vietnam, ED said they would like to make a Vietnam map but cant due to technical limitations. Namely the amount of trees they need to render, destructable trees and more advanced damage modeling of structures and AI units. Currently trees can tank a MK-84 so that infantry behind the tree can survive that.

lego jurassic park did dsstructible trees. ED need to hire better programmers or switch engines.

      2. If ED opens the SDK to modders, you’ll see that in less than a year we’ll have a Vietnam map…

I see some community members are saying that the building at the bottom looks like it may be from a famous building in Vietnam. I guess we’ll see!

  2. jeez now even the trailer for things we may never see is delayed!

How many things in the 2024 video failed to see the light of day.

F15E, F4U, pacific, Hellcat, Intruder … and what happened to the sky raider?

It is later on but not the latest we’ve seen. 2020 and Beyond came out in February of that year.

It definitely hinged on the “and Beyond” part with a fair bit of content shown that hasn’t yet materialized.

Maybe we’ll see them this year, last year obviously was a bit too optimistic.

We had a bit of news about the sound recording efforts for the Skyraider recently. https://stormbirds.blog/2025/01/02/dcs-round-up-tornado-g-91-reflected-campaign-news-brief-razbam-statement/

  3. Now ED hypes the hype video. And now we hype the hype that hypes the hype. I’m surprised they didn’t release a hype-filled trailer to the hype video, you know, for hype’s sake.

I guess there was a delay in releasing the video because they found some bugs. Maybe we’ll get a Remastered video… for $10. 🙂

  4. It will be very interesting to see what is published this year, as 2024 was less than a stellar year and quite frankly disappointing. So much that you see how its affected the community, many discussions about how to proceed with so much uncertainty with DCS and ED. You can see the frustrations and disagreements among the community clearly.

Lets hope for the best and we can turn this wagon around!

Hopeful for 2025, not unreasonably so because I feel like we may be in for more turbulence but still I hope that maybe it’ll be a good one.

  5. I hope they work on core game mostly this year. AI, Dynamic campaign, bug fixes, ect.

It definitely needs that. There are core issues that desperately need to be sorted out.

      1. Yah for sure. The Razbam issue has almost entirely killed my interest in DCS in some ways. I so badly want that resolved. I also think they are rushing modules out half baked which concerns me about their financial stability.

  6. If we are gonna talk about the prospect of seeing the Dynamic Campaign system then we prob wanna focus more on the “And Beyond” part of the Title lol
Another year and still nothing. I know, I know! “It’s coming, they’re working on it” etc.
Feels like the longest I have ever waited for anything though XD

  8. It is NOT going to be any of these:

    • Dynamic campaign
    • new business model saving modules from inevitable obsolescence
    • something to prevent multiplayer scene from fragmenting even more on map modules

it will be again be some hype creating plane module for 70usd that will be early release 2025 and hopefully finished by 2030.

  9. I’m still holding firm…not spending another dime until I see some effort put into completing the dynamic campaign. It’s a half-baked cockpit-simulator right now.

That remains a significant issue for sure. Posing a hypothetical question for you (and others), would the arrival of a much improved mission generator that is not the dynamic campaign partially satisfy? It’s something ED mentioned last year and IMHO if we got something as good as or better than the AQMB from IL-2 I’d be glad to see it. Obviously it’s not what the dynamic campaign offers but it would offer a significant jump in gameplay. I pose as a hypothetical.

      1. For sure, that would at least be something. Obviously they will need to significantly improve the AI. I don’t understand why we STILL do not have AI better than what we were getting in 1998 (in all games, not just DCS)?! Isn’t it the ‘Age of AI’?

I’m hopeful that we’ll see that come much sooner to give us something more valuable to work with while they take on the much bigger job of the campaign system. They’ve got so much technical deficit to catch up on to sort out I feel like it’s going to be many more years.

  10. I’m hopeful the dynamic campaign is released in some form this year but I doubt it’ll be complete. There’s a lot of stuff that needs to work properly (AI path finding for ground vehicles being one) first. So I think it’ll be a draft iteration of the dynamic campaign and most likely in the second half of the year. And despite the wait, I’m sure people will jump on it and beat it down.

For all its faults and missteps, DCS World is a pretty remarkable thing.
