If you’re looking to build out your virtual airliner cockpit you have a new hardware option coming in from WinWing with their MIP series of MCDU/FMC panels for airliner fans. Let’s have a look!

Coming up mid-month

If you want to pull your MCDU/FMC operations out of the virtual cockpit and into the real world with your virtual airliner setup, WinWing’s new hardware line looks set to be a new option for you. The company is advertising four panels with the PFP 4 intended for 747 pilots, PFP 7 for the 777, PFP 3N for the 737, and MCDU for the A320. The Fenix A320 and PMDG 737, 747 and 777 get specific callouts in their recent poll on Facebook though the “etc.” I’m guessing means that other options should work just as well.

The poll appears to show, at least among their Facebook fans, that the MCDU for the A320 is the most popular option by a long shot with the Boeing options coming in second with a collective 30% of the vote total. Curious to know if that will ultimately shake out differently with the real sales but certainly their Airbus focused options have attracted lots of attention.

Here are some of the features as mentioned by WinWing:

  • Full-Scale Structure for Maximum Authenticity
  • 28.5mm Panel Thickness
  • Fully Backlit with Adjustment across Multiple Panels and Game Sync Support
  • Realistic Light Sensors in Response to the Cockpit’s Lighting Environment
  • One USB Cable Only, No Need for HDMI or Other Cables, No GPU Performance Impact, Featuring Zero Latency
  • SimAppPro Plug and Play with Manual Position Switching between Captain, Co-pilot, and Observer Roles
  • Designed for Multiple Scenarios with Six Fully Drilled Mounting Holes Reserved for Authentic Cockpit Builds

The panels are reportedly launching on January 17 at 10:00 am (UTC+8) with pre-order and global shipping at all of their regional sites. Pricing is listed as $129.95 USD (and equivalent in other currencies).

MIP Airliner Panels Series joins their already available EFIS Combo for Airbus fans and a forthcoming similar cockpit arrangement for Boeing fans.

No product page is available on the WinWing website just yet but I expect it will be there once the product formally launches. Stay tuned on their Facebook page or elsewhere for more.

  3. So impressive. A plug and play MCDU with all those features for that price. As I use so many different aircraft types, sims, etc. I just don’t have a good enough reason to buy one, plus I find that a zoomed-in quick view and the mouse just works so well for FMS interaction.

But for those who spend most of their time in the Boeing or Airbus birds, this is practically a no-brainer for how cool it is. Plus, bear in mind that you will be interacting with this far more than with your yoke or sidestick! (though your landings will definitely suffer if you don’t have one of those.)

  4. Winwing continue to impress with their value for money and its great to see the move to a single integrated unit rather than what was done with the Hornet setup (where you had tp buy the display separately)

  5. If one flies a mix of planes is there one particular that is more useful or universal? I am guessing the functions are similar. One could use the Boeing for Airbus? Is it possible to use one for the DCS A10c CDU? I know that may not be the intended use, but I cannot see buying one for just one or two aircraft when I like variety.

I was thinking about that and I’m not entirely sure how that might work. They’ve gone Boeing and Airbus centric but what if you fly Embraers? I suspect the Boeing focused model may average out better across all of the designs.

    2. I think in time a A-10C CDU will arrive and I hope some other generic military type items (I suggested via their survey a radio/nav panel for the 3rd gen type aircraft).

I fly in VR so having something close to the real placement is really helpful, albeit not essential as you learn where things are

Yeah I suspect the A-10 and maybe AH-64 will see their keypad systems replicated by hardware makers. WinWing is on a bit of a roll there.
