News coming in from DCS World developers Eagle Dynamics as they provide their latest DCS World Weekend News update. This one gives us some long awaited information on the contents of the Pacific WWII assets as well as some news on the latest work on the DCS: CH-47F.

Pacific theatre update

One of the DCS World assets that were a bit more absent this year in the 2025 and Beyond video (despite quite a strong showing in the 2024 and Beyond video) was the Pacific WWII assets. At long last we have a status update which gives us a good indication of the scale and scope of what they are working on.

We start with the map, the free WWII Marianas map which is based on the modern version albeit with a period authentic setup.

Although we were able to use some of the elevation mesh from the modern-day version of the Marianas map, the vast majority was redone to account for the correct buildings, airfields, agriculture, roads and rails, ports and urban areas. We also retextured the entire map surface to improve quality and accuracy. Based on our experience with the modern-day version, we are carefully ensuring good performance too.

The development update also talks about a WWII Pacific asset pack which Eagle Dynamics reports will be available for purchase with a 30% discount for current WWII Asset Pack owners.

The asset pack is relatively large with the A6M5 Zero, B6N “Jill”, D4Y “Judy” SDB-5 Dauntless, SB2C Helldiver, TBF Avenger, Catalina, D3A “Val” and B5N “Kate” all getting specific mentions. These are in addition to the F6F Hellcat that Eagle Dynamics is developing themselves (and the F4U that Magnitude 3 have been working on for several years).

In addition to aircraft there’s also the USS Enterprise, Iowa-class, Cleveland-class, and Fletcher-class for the USN side and the Shokaku, Yugumo, Kongo and Mogami classes for the IJN. Ground vehicles will be in the pack too with the Type 97 Shin Ho To, Type 97 Chi-Ha, and Type 97 Te-Ke confirmed (and pictured in the update).

In an editorial note, this asset pack and aircraft list is far better focused than Eagle Dynamics previous efforts and gives us map plus assets that all work together in terms of timing.

CH-47 update

The latest efforts on DCS: CH-47F are coming into focus too. There are enhancements coming to the CDU & MFD screens, a proper SFD (Standby Flight Display), advanced rope physics with support for multiple ropes, and new liveries are coming. They also plan a more accurate damage model and there are flight control updates coming too.

The last one involves low-speed modes for the DAFCS which helps augment the pilots control over the CH-47.

We are introducing refined low-speed control logic for the Digital Automatic Flight Control System (DAFCS), including Transitional Rate Command, and Position Hold. These features aim to enhance control authority and stability when operating in tight confines or during hover transitions.

More news and information is part of the rest of the DCS World Weekend News.

  1. There’s some angles not really spoken about here that should get more love from the community. There’s a the late recovery to how ED missed the opportunity with DCS Europe. Let’s face it, with the WW2 asset pack we got a lot of static chopped wood, hay bales and beach defence litter. 3 AI planes only and over 30 vehicles. Only one new German AI plane to shoot at :/. Great for pixels you only see in a gunsight at LOD3 range, but missing the mark on what’s actually useful.

Now with the Pacific announcement it seems there’s some more even structure to whats useful with 5 AI Japanese planes and 3 AI US planes on top of the 2 that are coming as full modules. And they did the same with naval assets with a carrier, battleship, cruiser and destroyer each nicely setup as four types, which cannot be accidental. Notice that the AI planes all have different roles, fighter, dive bomber, torpedo bomber.

This is finally some kind of listening, its almost like a game was being made, I say that flippantly, but for how long have we asked for the right pieces to be available in the right setting that made sense?!

This represents the most exciting development in DCS world that i’ve seen, it’s representing a shift that leaves the genetically isolated F-35 on its own. No peers, no play. Now here comes a game. Stoked.

More of an editorial that I’ve got in the works already. But it’s not lost on me that they seem to have a more cohesive collection of content this time around. Far better than what they did with Western Front. Agreed!

    2. I also feel that WW2 Europe scenarios are somehow abandoned. I would welcome AI He-111 or Ju-87 Stuka.

      1. Additional aircraft for ETO would really have helped that out. A Bf109G-6 would have helped to fill out the aircraft line-up some rather than subbing in the K-4 everywhere. Ju88 AI they did but not a common version… should have been a C-6. That at least saw some Normandy action. AI or flyable Typhoon and P-38 would have helped to make things interesting too without asking for the moon. Alas, they didn’t but maybe they’ve learned their lesson.

No date provided. Usually they talk about something and then it shows up in the next big update. Could be weeks away.

I should add. The CH-47 updates could be weeks away. Pacific content could be considerably longer.

  3. I agree with Pikey this is a huge step in the right direction in terms of giving us a full environment that is also cohesive. It will really help actually simulate the environment that the coming FF modules would have fought in which is great and will certainly help draw people to this new theater. I follow DCS news heavily but wasn’t aware so much of this PTO asset pack and thought it was planned to be much much smaller so to see that it’s this expansive has me very excited!

I’m happy especially about the large number of AI aircraft they add so much to the game with way less investment than the FF aircraft. And I was worried about how hollow and bizarre PTO scenarios would be without torpedo and dive bombers so this announcement makes this theater seem much more attractive!
