One of the long running complaints about ground units in the IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles Series were infantry or the general lack thereof. This time around, the developers have created new infantry units that will be part of the ground battles depicted in their Korean War simulation. Let’s have a look.

New infantry units

The developers of IL-2 Korea report that their new sim title will have three types of infantry squads. Rifle squads, assault squads and light machine gun squads. Each unit will have independently moving members with the ability for any one of them to be killed in the battle and the rest of the squad continues on. A much more interactive experience from before.

A new type of infantry unit has been added too. Mortar squads with light and medium varieties.

The devs have also reminded us that artillery will have animated infantry moving around.

All of this looks to be upping the ground battles for the sim which should be interesting for close air support pilots. It also makes me wonder if they are laying the groundwork for simulated ground battles in the future or perhaps just upping the level of simulation regardless of future plans.

  1. It would be nice if they show scale of battles with thouse new infantry, bazooka or recoilless gun squad would be good for tank battles, if they are doing infantry i expect they gona do TC 2.0

  2. I think they will do a Tank Crew in the new game. If you look on one of the comments on their Facebook, if everything works out they will want to do another iteration of it.

Personally I’d like to see all of the Great Battles products be reiterated into the new IL-2 series. I think that Stalingrad, Moscow, Kuban, Bodenplatte and Normandy are all based off of battles/campaigns that are too important to be left out, as well as the Flying Circus series. Though for the Flying Circus reiteration I would like to see them go to the Eastern Front of WWI like Galicia. But what I want to see most is a reiteration (sorry I have overused that word) of Cliffs of Dover. I’d love to see Britain: IL-2 title one day. Wouldn’t you?
