It’s been downloaded more than 12,000 times on the Flightsim.to website and is a regular feature in the eSTOL competitions in Microsoft Flight Simulator. I’m talking about Sal’s Cessna 170B Backcountry freeware aircraft which has just seen a version 2.0 upgrade and a move to supporting MSFS 2024 with some new features. Let’s have a look!
The ole 2.0 upgrade!

Sal’s Cessna 170B is quite a fun airplane to fly in Microsoft Flight Simulator and its just been upgraded to a new MSFS 2024 compatible version. The new version takes advantage of some 2024 features to give us more options to fly the plane.
The 2020 version has 26in bushwheels or floats while the new 2024 version has options for 26in bushwheels, 29in tundra tires, 35in tundra tires, straight floats, and the ability to swap out the 145hp engine for a 180hp engine (something you could do in 2020 but only by modifying some files in the community folder).
The Tundra Tires support the new MSFS 2024 dirt layer system too and will pick up dirt on muddy surfaces and clean up on clean surfaces. They also support tire deformation which can be adjusted with tire pressure settings.
The aircraft comes with a bunch of liveries and adds my friend Jon Coughlin’s eSTOL competition livery (with Stormbirds branding among several others).
