The next airliner to get an overhaul for Microsoft Flight Simulator is Aerosoft’s CRJ series. The new version 2 upgrade has a release date and upgrade information for current owners. There’s also screenshots and a video announcement. Let’s have a look!

CRJ upgrades

Announced formally today, Aerosoft have revealed that CRJ v2 is coming on the 25th of March 2025. The upgrade makes it compatible with MSFS 2020 and 2024, adds full integration with NaviGraph charts, and includes a revamped cabin, updated flight model, includes bug fixes and other work done to the airplane. Aerosoft report that a changelog will be forthcoming.

The upgrade will be free for current owners. Even better, Aerosoft are now packaging all four variants (CRJ 550, 700, 900 and 1000) together into a single bundle so if you happened to own just part of the bundle before you’ll be upgraded to own all of them.

If you don’t own the airplane, Aerosoft report that the package will be sold for 49,99€ (incl. VAT).

Thoughts on the news

I’m crossing my fingers over here as I write this article (somewhat awkwardly mind you!) as Aerosoft’s CRJ had plenty of potential early in its life to cement itself as one of the earliest full fidelity airliner releases. Unfortunately, as I mentioned during my full review of the product, the aircraft fell short of expectations and had several glaring issues that went unfixed for years. Is this a moment of redemption? I’m hoping it is.

News of the aircraft coming in the near(ish) future leaked weeks ago and seemed like an opportunity lost to provide a more fulsome update from the company. I’m glad that we now have that and that a full changelog will be presented around the time of release.

I’m also glad to see Aerosoft offering the upgrade for free. It’s rare that I feel like a developer owes the community but after the product was largely left on its own for a lengthy period of time, this seems like an olive branch to current owners. I’m choosing to take it as one and I’m cautiously optimistic that CRJ flights will be back on the table in 2024 very soon.

  1. I never bought the Aerosoft CRJ, so I hope you don’t mind me asking this. Between 1-10, how would you rate the Aerosoft CRJ’s fidelity level?

  2. ooooh…!!!

kudos & thanks to Aerosoft for now including the 900/1000! 👍

im cautiously optimistic on this news…!

I’m a fan of this jet IRL (many flights and always a good experience).

and it was obviously The Best addon when it came out.

but TBH I lost interest when PMDG & JF 146 release due to their higher polish and better ongoing support.

i re-read your previous review and totally agree.

if they’ve fixed the various relatively minor issues (and that one rnav crash) I could easily see getting back into this.
