The early access launch of IL-2 Siege and Liberation, the next (and possibly last) Great Battles major add-on is on the way. A new developer diary has some nuggets of information on what is planned for early access and offers a showcase of the two maps included in the project with new screenshots, new images of included aircraft and more.

Development update

1C Game Studios is reporting that their work on this project is ongoing and that they expect to complete the work during 2025. A pre-order and early access launch is planned as well which will happen when at least three of the project’s planned eight aircraft are complete as well as at least one of the maps. It’s expected that the Odessa map will probably be first out of the gate.

The Gulf of Finland map, being developed by a third party group called KarttaKomppania (see my exclusive Q&A), is also making progress with a reported 204 x 277 kilometer setup. The city of Vyborg (Viipuri before the war for historians), several small towns, villages, ports, bridges and 20 aerodromes have been completed. The team will be switching from the Finnish part of the map to the Soviet part of the map developing the city of Lenningrad in the next couple of months.

As you can see in the screenshots, we’ve also got new images of the included aircraft. New images of the I-153, LaGG-3 Series 4, Yak-1 Series 23, and Yak-3 Series 9 are all shown. We’ve yet to see the Bf109E-4, La-7 Series 1, IL-2 Model 1944, or Ju87D-5 but those are coming eventually as well.

  1. I think this module needs more aircraft though for the Finnish side. Though I have heard that there are planes in development for the Finnish Air Force like the Fiat G.50 and the Brewster B-239 Buffalo if I remember correctly.

Not confirmed but widely reported that both of those are potentially in the works.

  2. so it looks I-153, Lagg-3 and Yak-3 with Odessa map this year, and rest 2026, and they are back to doing early access.

I had read it as more of an evening released by the end of 2025 but I could be very wrong on that interpretation.

      1. maybe it will be, i just dont understand why would they split it if all would come out in this year, so i expect early 2026 for full DLC. And Korea inbetween if its still on plan t be full rlise without early acceess, end of 2025.

You mean bringing the first map and aircraft? They have tended to be a group that has methodically worked through one airplane, finished, released and then started on another one. It sounds like they want to wait until they have some of the content finished and then will early access that (so we can fly it) and they will finish later.

      3. i was under impresion that they decided to relise stuff when its finished, no early access any more, thats why this news looks like they split DLC in two halfs, one with odessa and 3 airplanes to start early acces, and then later rest, or maybe add as finished one by one like before. Then i expect full things will be done in 2026 as near end of 2025 Korea will be big priority, and smashing any bugs and doing promo for it. Its not like before where they had only GB DLC to handle.

  3. I’m incredibly upset over the selection of aircraft here, especially with the Finland part of the project. I’m happy we are finally get to see these maps as we get to use Finnish skins on existing aircraft and we get to use the I.A.R 80 & 81 aircraft in it’s historical territory so to speak.

Above I’ve seen a comment about the G.50 and the Bufflo, I hope these rumors are true as they are solid choices for the Finnish map. With that said could you tell us more about them but only if you’re allowed to of course ?

You mean not having any Finnish aircraft in the mix? I think, and this is mostly conjecture on my part, that originally they were just doing Odessa. That was a map that I first reported on back in 2016 or 2017 and then didn’t go anywhere for a long time. The aircraft set was chosen and they started on their plan. The Finnish map team made significant progress and they must have decided to put it into the release. Thus the aircraft selection not fully matching the map selection. That’s my guess.

There are forum comments that suggest that both are in consideration. I don’t know much else. They may be third party projects, they may be something that 1CGS is doing with spare dev team when they aren’t working on Korea. I’m not sure but I am hopeful that we see at least one if not both. I’d love a Hawk 75 too… but I’m not holding my breath.
