A new wrinkle in the ongoing Eagle Dynamics and RAZBAM dispute story came out today as we received word that the modules were being pulled from sale. Here’s what we know about the latest changes.

Not currently available for sale

News circulating through the community this morning was word that four RAZBAM modules are no longer available for sale as of this morning. The ongoing legal and sometimes public dispute between the two companies has been out in the public for about a year now and while none of the modules had seen a discount during the frequent DCS World sales, they had remained available for purchase.

Eagle Dynamics community manager BIGNEWY reported via Discord and on the forums that the request to remove them from sale originated from RAZBAM, stating the following:

After receiving an official request by RAZBAM to remove products from sale we have done so. All products will be fully supported by DCS and will continue to operate.

BIGNEWY on the DCS forums

After some notes that the modules were still (and as of this writing continue to be) available to be purchased through Steam, BIGNEWY clarified that they are being removed from Steam as well.

Steam takes a little longer to action requests like this. They are being removed from Steam also.

BIGNEWY on the DCS forums

The modules are still listed on the DCS World eShop, however, they are all listed as not available. This, somewhat ominously, is similar to the VEAO and the Hawk T.1 scenario with that module still listed as being on sale as well.

Unlike that scenario, right now Eagle Dynamics and RAZBAM both are saying that their modules continue to function. The concern, of course, is for their long term viability as the core of DCS World continues to shift but for the immediate short term it looks like they will at least be maintaining the status quo.

One module does remain on sale

The removal from sale appears to be affecting only the aircraft modules from RAZBAM. The DCS: South Atlantic Map by RAZBAM has continued to see updates in the past year and it appears to have been left out of the removal – at least for now.

The exact background of that situation is a little murky though it is known that the team behind it, contractors with RAZBAM, have also been working with Orbx on the DCS: Kola map. The exact business arrangement there appears to be unaffected or is sidestepping the other challenges.

Does this change the situation?

Given the ongoing nature of the dispute, the volatility that some are feeling about this, and the recent comments from RAZBAM CEO Ron Zambrano, this may cause further anxiety over the situation.

For the moment, I think it’s wise not to read too deeply into this. Many in the community have been suggesting that purchases of these modules are often not recommended until the situation can be clarified. I’ve seen many a community member, often those who are more casual to the community, ask about a RAZBAM module be talked down from a purchase and suggested to buy and fly something else. That’s probably a wise move, not because some of these aren’t fan favourites, but because we just don’t know what their long term viability are.

Hopefully this news doesn’t cause further panic though it undoubtedly will continue to contribute to the concerns shared by nearly everyone in the DCS community.

Ron’s recent statement, made just days ago, still suggests a hope for a resolution. That hope is probably doing some heavy lifting, however, it still leaves us with some hope that this story isn’t quite done yet and that resolution may be found. Fingers crossed!

  1. Oh well. We’ll see what happens. But if the end to all this takes as long as a DCS module takes to build, we’ll see results in Q5 2031. 😉

  2. I was so, so excited for their F15E, loved it, and this has really left a sour taste for me. Sad.

I hear you! I was excited for it too, wanting to relive the fantastic time I had with MicroProse F-15 Strike Eagle III that I spent lots of time with. I flew this one a fair bit but haven’t felt like putting much time into it for now.

Are you into it for the F-15ness of it or the Strike Eagle part of it? Put another way, will Eagle Dynamics new F-15C full fidelity offer a viable alternative or are you looking for something else?

      1. Well, I’m sure I’ll end up getting the f15c. I just love interdiction missions more than a2a.

Yeah I hear you. I’m definitely more of an interdiction mission person these days too.

For me it’s the other way around. I learned that thing entirely, worked quite heavily with the atg radarmapping and threw my fair share of bombs but overall i used it for about 95% of my flying time as pure air to air fighter, mostly in some late coldwarmissions, using fox1s and 2s. So the Charlyeagle is more than welcome but still i do not want to miss the echo either. I want them both and i fly them both. To this day, as the echo is still pretty much useable.

    1. Little to no interest without the bulky structure that came from Flanker and Lock On.

It is not that easy as many imagine it is, on top of that.

      1. With the DCS modern focus that is. There are plenty others out there, including Combat Pilot coming up. Too hasty posting the previous comment as I am also frustrated with this industry. 😦

  4. The plot definitely thickens 🙂

If money is the problem, then this move looks like a very strange medicine to me 🙂

Taking a step back, looking at MSFS and X-Plane with hundreds, if not thousands of third party add-ons, then this episode is perhaps more or less expected? There are countless defunct add-ons for those sims. Third party companies close up for whatever reasons.

  5. When the news of the RAZBAM modules being removed from the store came out, I saw some saying they were snatching the modules up in the Steam store during the lag of the removal there. Where some of us saw that further caution was warranted, others saw it as a fire-sale though of course without the sale price. I was a little bewildered, and yet part of me can understand.

Personally, the F15e is a very nice though unfinished module and I eventually wanted to get the Harrier, which really clicked with me when I trialed it.

    1. I do have all the WW2 planes from the western front and besides the Mosquito, when did they release the last update for those single engine planes???? Do not think RAZBAN products will be blocked in DCS.

BTW can this “block” system be removed, it’s so irritating that if you want to delete the last few letters with backspace the complete textblock will be removed.

Using an Ipad and that only has an backspace

It’s been a bit since the WWII aircraft have seen any significant attention. I know the Mosquito saw a suspension and tire physics change and the Spitfire IX cockpit got quite a nice overhaul.

I’m not sure what you’re talking about with regards to a “block system.” What’s happening?

As far as I’m aware there’s no connection.

It’s a contract and payment dispute.

    2. Zero connection. RB was developing full time the F-15E to be ready for release at the time.

  9. I can’t say I’ll ever miss Rascam, their childishness and poor development is good to be rid of. However I hope that ED have learned and are able to update the modules. They did say they’ll continue to work after all

    1. I m just going to say i don’t believe that ED operates in good faith … while i know Rasbam has issues nobody seems to question ED withholding an entire year of profits. I do believe that ED is trying to force Rasbam to close as they are in an impasse. I for one will not once forget that ED has 6 aircraft in development or early access at the same time. And while you can try to say some bullshit about coding teams. Larger well managed teams will get the same work done faster.

      1. Rascam allegedly broke the terms of a contract, if true then they deserve it. Give rascams track record I’m inclined to believe the allegations. I honestly don’t care if ed have 6 or 60 aircraft in dev, they’ve all been pretty good

      2. While your opinion is yours… Nothing ED has done is any ware close to Heatblur .. honestly i find most of their work lacking and slow as hell. And you said Allegedly. But if it were that simple this would be over already. So i would have to say the fact that its still on going actually removed credibility of EDs position.. but i say lets agree to disagree. I find it off putting that everyone attacks Rasbam but nobody seems to question ED .. what makes anyone think they are errorless or incapable of being shits.

  10. The day Razbam modules stop working will mark the beginning of the end for DCS.

I will not trust or buy overpriced early access or even finished modules that could be die at any time.

IMHO, it had to get worse before it could get better.

a full year with no outward change…

this could be a few things:

the negotiations getting serious with lawyers and such

razbam running out of resources and stirring the pot

eagle dynamics upping the ante (we don’t owe you anything for modules that haven’t been sold)

Maybe even ED setting the stage to take control of the modules since RB “isn’t” maintaining them

whatever it is, I wish for a fair resolution that keeps the current RB available, and future modules from them back in the pipeline.

i know it’s said that ED don’t have the RB source code, but since ED literally built the APIs that all the devs use, I can think of a few ways for ED to keep the RB modules active even as the sim advances.

  12. I think that is in both Eagle Dynamic’s and RAZBAM’s best interests to settle this dispute. In RAZBAM’s case they have invested a lot of time, money and resources into making full fidelity aircraft modules that are not compatible with any other game rather than DCS. Also there is no other game like DCS to turn to especially now that they have specialized from going from civil flight simulation to military flight simulation. And with all the resources and skills they have picked up on their journey working with DCS it would be a shame to stop now. As for Eagle Dynamics, if they don’t settle this they may start to gain a bad reputation with how they go about partnerships with third party developers and potential third party developers may not want to work with them. So it has to be resolved some way.

  13. I Think i made my opinion of ED clear in other posts and in my reply above. but i will say Rasbam is the most prolific Mod as of right now for ED. Cutting out this third party which has released so much and helped grow DCS is a fools game. Rasbam has 3 released 1 early access and had a few more aircraft in process. ED has mostly in process … for the same time frame .. more is not better. the only 3rd party besides rasbam that are putting out good products are Heatblur and Polychop. Without Rasbam i don’t see DCS making it because they have too many projects going at once and they tend to break their own code and have set themselves back. I have put away my joystick after this move putting more time into a game that i dont believe in is stupid… I will watch and revisit later. I think they need to start from scratch and find a way to transfer current modules into a new Engine that is more streamlined and effective anyway. I mean look at the CH-47F if they go any slower they will have abandoned it. Then they say oh and here are 3 more.. talk about biting off more than you can chew..

I now turn my eyes to combat pilot for hope of the future.. and in a lesser case IL2-Korea… (assuming the Sky raider is gunna be their and not a premium)

Shamrock keep up the good work I will keep reading your blog i love it.
