The latest update from 1C Game Studios on their IL-2 Korea project is focused on the AAA that will be used in the new sim. The update gives us an overview of the pieces available and that you’ll be potentially facing up against. There’s also some interesting historical notes in there that are interesting. Let’s have a look.

Facing off against the AAA

AAA, or anti-aircraft artillery, or better known as “flak” to many flyers from the time, was one of the more hazardous things for pilots to deal with. The Korean War was, notably, the last conflict fought without the use of guided surface to air missile batteries missing out on them by just a few years.

This latest update details the many different systems that are part of the new sim. Ranging from the 7.62 mm SG-43, 12.7 mm DShKM, 7.62 mm M1919 and 12.7 mm M2 .50 on the smaller end to KC-12 85 mm, 100 mm KC-19, 90 mm M2 anti-aircraft gun and 120 mm M1. There are also searchlights on both sides of the battle to coordinate fire at night.

Learn more and see more renders of these different systems over on the latest dev blog.

  2. I like how they are working on every singe detail for IL-2, whether it is on the ground, sea or in the air.

  3. I have nothing against them doing the Korean War as that is something that hasn’t been covered in over 25 years but if they are very disappointed that Normandy was done instead of the Pacific in GBs — crying into pillows after fruitlessly begging Jason to do it (as they claim) and making him out to be a total scumbag — then why are they doing Korea instead of like Guadalcanal where carriers and large ships weren’t that major or can be added in the next installment?

Like, was Daniel/Han just lying about all that? If you’re going to vilify someone you better have your facts straight.

    1. Only reason they are doing it now is because CP is being done, they have short timeframe to make their Pacific game to be first to do it, Unreal engine dosent realy give me confidance in game on it being smoth and bug free, especialy when it needs to depict big air battles with big ships and planty of AI airplanes and flaks and so on… There is more likely that game build on slightly upgraded GB engine will atleast be deacent from start, so Han and team probably thinks we can do it by 2027, Jason cant, so lets do it now to get PTO hype. If Jason is not doing Midway, they would not be doing PTO to me its as simple as that, they would probably doing Berlin 45 or Vietnam, We moved from Russian wars when Jason took over GB, and come back to Russian wars when he left. They realy dont to anything els then Russian stuff when lest alone…

      1. I disagree, after doing the Korean War you really have two options: late war Eastern Front with the Tu-2, IL-10, Li-2 and La-7 or the Pacific with the Mustang, B-29, and Corsair. The Pacific looks to be the better option of the two it’s just that if they’re so disappointed that the Pacific didn’t happen in GBs then it makes no sense in that regard to start with Korea.

      2. Vietnam is only natural place to go after, why make new game focused on jets just to go back to prop pacific. Thats why if they realy wonted to do PTO they would not do Korea and just do PTO. They could say, we need to make it new game as GB cant handle demands pacific war brings, planty of airplanes, big maps, larg ships with more AAA then ever sean in game. HJow it looks now is they are doing PTO after Korea only because of CP is doing it. And they know they gona relised it first, then they can go back to Vietnam or Berlin or some other war where russians flew.

      3. Vietnam marks the shift to guided rockets, AWACS, advanced onboard radars and the heavy use of choppers in combat, so it makes perfect sense to go to Korea, but not Vietnam.

Note that jets are not new to IL-2, and they were already in the WW 2 modules.

And we already know that they are going to the Pacific next.

For now it doesn’t appear that they want to do any of those things. Certainly adding radar and IR sensors into the mix would be, not impossible, but a new layer and area that they haven’t done yet.

Pacific has already been announced as you say so what happens after remains to be seen.
