Options for SimWorks Studios upcoming GA-8 Airvan release are being prepared. The base package, the aircraft itself, is planned to be joined by an optional failures system which the developers have detailed in an update on their Facebook page over the weekend. Let’s have a look at what they have planned!
Working your way through the failures
SWS’s upcoming Airvan is nearly ready to go and they report that the base aircraft is having the finishing touches being put into place. These include a couple of tablet functions and AI aircraft sounds. They are also preparing to release the paint kit so you can get going on liveries for the aircraft right away.
The optional package, the failures system, reportedly supports more than 70 aircraft failures. These start simple, such as a electrical circuit that pops a breaker, and a reset may be all that’s needed. Or not as it may be!
They have programmed in singular failures too. A maintenance item, such as the propeller, will suffer more wear and tear flying at 2,500 feet in the winter than 6,000 feet in the summer. Air density, humidity, sand particles, and other weather functions will affect the long term reliability of something as important as the propeller.
They have also programmed in cascading failures. The example they give is oil level being below the minimum. More friction will cause the engine to heat faster and wear down more quickly. A video has been shared showing engine arrhythmia with one cylinder failing to combust the fuel properly.
It should be interesting to see what the uptake will be for just the core airplane and then how many people will buy into the failure system too. If you like “living” with a virtual airplane, this might appeal greatly.
