If you like cockpits of old 1950s era aircraft, you’ll probably like this one. The latest IL-2 Korea developer diary is focused on the fully textured cockpit of the project’s MiG-15bis. The model, textures and materials information really come together to make an impressive looking render. Meanwhile, I missed last week’s IL-10 cockpit update so let’s have a look at that too.
MiG-15 cockpit textures in

This week’s dev diary is focused on the MiG-15 cockpit. We’ve seen it in the past but only with the model work complete. This time around we’re seeing it fully textured and with its materials setup. This helps influence how the model visually looks when it gets rendered in the game engine.
We haven’t seen that last piece but the texture and model work certainly look impressive.
IL-10 work in progress
Meanwhile, I totally missed the IL-10 cockpit update from last week. It shows off the untextured version of the cockpit. The developer diary explains that the model is done in very high details with some of those details been removed from the 3D model for the game, however, the details are baked into the textures with various lighting techniques leading to a more realistic visual.
Another key piece of information are the differences in the turret design for the IL-10 with the new turret featuring a belt felt UBK (rather than magazine fed) UBT 12.7mm machine gun. That allows for more continuous fire from the turret without needing to reload.
