The latest IL-2 Korea developer diary from 1C Game Studios is out and its fucsed on the radar systems that are going to be a part of the sim. They have some potential for significant interactivity so that could be quite an interesting element to this new sim. We also have a video showing off the MiG-15 in both rendered and in-game form. Let’s have a look at both.
Radar and sizzle
Lets start off with the video. This short video is more of a “sizzle” reel style of video with some short rendered clips and then some in-engine video as well. We get one of our first looks at an IL-2 Korea aircraft cockpit in action although its clear that lots of things aren’t functional yet – like the gunsight. Still its a step in the right direction.
Meanwhile, we have developer diary number 39 which is focused on the sim’s 5-models of radar station. The P-8 “Volga,” P-20 “Periscope,” AN/TPS-1C, AN/CPS-1, and AN/CPS-6B covering both sides of the conflict.

We also learn a bit about how these systems will interact with the player. It does look like, for the first time in the IL-2 series, that radar systems will not just be set dressing but something with an interactive element.
The player will be able to communicate with the radar stations, receive target information, determine their location, obtain a vector to the nearest airfield, and more. There are also thoughts on how to implement the influence of the radar envelope on the AI-controlled aircraft. Later, in the Dev Blogs about the player interface and radio exchange, we will explain exactly how this interaction will take place.
This will be an interesting layer to not just IL-2 Korea but for some of their planned WWII projects that are coming later. Radar was used heavily during WWII to influence the air battle and to date there really hasn’t been that kind of interactivity. If they incorporate radar vectoring and ground control interception schemes, that will mark an interesting movement forward for the series.
