Sometimes things are a little quiet from Matt Wagner and then we get a couple of videos in quick succession. This second video to come out in recent days is once again focused on the AN/AAQ-33 Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP) or the “Sniper XR” and it gives a us a little better sense of what you can do with some of the more advanced features.

Multi-target track, air to air and more

Matt Wagner is back with another video and this second video covers some of the advanced features of the ATP. Some of these features are available on the Litening pod currently available while others, like multi-target track, are a newer feature. Notably, the multi track system works on both ground targets and air targets and it looks like the whole system is a bit more useful in aerial engagements including the possibility of doing radar-off AIM-9 queuing for stealthier sneak attacks.

Matt also goes over how Maverick handoff works, laser pointing, laser spot track and more.

This all sounds like a good addition to DCS: F-16C and a good reminder for me personally to dust off this module and get it flying again.

  1. I watched that video earlier and there’s some mighty cool stuff in there. Love the multi-targeting and picture in picture. The only downside is it’s only for the Viper and its smaller B&W MFDs. Still looks like a lot of fun.

You never know, maybe we’ll get a Sniper pod on the Hornet one day. I know they said it isn’t something they are doing… but stuff happens 😉

    2. The block 50 Viper’s MFDs aren’t black and white, they’re full colour. It’s just that the TV camera (and obviously the IR one too) are black and white.

Yeah it does. Sadly, I don’t think we’ll see it on there.
