The latest developer diary for IL-2 Korea is out and this one is focused on renders of the F-80C cockpit. It also gives us a bit of a walk-around of the aircraft.

The Shooting Star’s office

Supported by just over a half dozen renders, Dev Blog #44 from the 1CGS group is showing off what the F-80C Shooting Star cockpit will look like in IL-2 Korea. The images are renders and not in-game imagery, however, it does give us a clear indication of the 3D visual details and texture work.

The dev blog gives us a walkaround of the cockpit examining its various features. The F-80C is essentially a WWII era design that differs slightly from what we’ll see from more modern types. For us WWII-era simmers, it does look quite similar to other aircraft of the era so it should be a familiar experience.

Next step here will undoubtedly be the dev team moving the cockpit into the game engine itself and linking all of the systems. We haven’t seen much of that final experience just yet so that’ll be something to watch for.

  1. and again with art pictures only, it will be interesting to see how this will look when playing game. Do they even have one cockpit imported fully in game by now, why not show that ?

I like to see the progress from untextured model to fully textured to in-game. I am hoping we start to see more cockpit shots from in-engine but I’m not sure if they have them and are saving it up for something bigger or if they are still working on the details.

  2. I hope IL-2 Korea has a built in model viewer like 1946. I know GB technically has a model viewer, but you have to dig in the game’s files for it and it’s a bit bugged for some of the more recently added planes. The hangar “walk around” in game for GB is fine, but could be better.

They have a new museum mode so you can get a better look at and learn about the aircraft. That might be what you’re looking for.

Have to try it out and see for myself what it’s like too of course.

      1. i dont like it as its misleading to people who dont know what they are, and when i play game i do not see what they show in them, they could post picture of real life cockpit and its same value in my eyes, from day one they started using art station pictures i see them as fake ads for game like other games do, atleast they say “not in game fotage” or some kined of thing like that

  3. agree with Sokol76 – its all very well seeing these renders (and they look awesome) but I just take these images with a grain of salt to be honest – yes it looks great but its not going to look like that with the experience I have.

With that aside – I am looking forward to 1st gen jet ops.

Nothing beats a render with very carefully setup lighting space. That’s for sure. It is nice to see the artwork shine but yeah we do want to see it make the next step. I suspect they are saving that up either because they want a big splashy reveal or because its just not ready yet… hopefully soon!
