We’ve got a couple of updates coming at us from the DCS World Weekend newsletter. This week we’ve learned about some key updates that are imminent for DCS: Iraq as well as some longer term plans for the map. We’ve also learned that the C-130J is going to be shown off at Sim Gaming Expo. Here’s what we know!
Iraq map picks up welcome updates
An upcoming update for DCS World will add some welcome updates for the DCS: Iraq map. The update follows in the footsteps of the Afghanistan map which also saw some improvements in the last update.
Iraq North is the focus with this update and one of the biggest changes is that its picking up a whole bunch of new airbases. H-2, H-3 Main, H-3 Northwest, H-3 Southwest airfields in western Iraq are all being added. In the north, Mosul Airfield has also been added and surrounding area has been improved. In the south, Al Kut Airfield has been added.
New points of interest include Kirkuk and Al-Shaab Stadiums, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Grand Festival Square, Mar Mattai Monastery, Baghdad and Babylon palaces.
The map team will be turning attention to Iraq South following this update. The southern region will include parts of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar and the team have also stated that they are committing to adding several Iranian airbases to the mix as well. Community calls for Iranian bases has been relatively loud as their addition would open up new Iran-Iraq war scenarios.
DCS: C-130J at Sim Gaming Expo
We’ve also learned through this Friday’s update that the DCS: C-130J is coming to Sim Gaming Expo being held this year from September 5 to 7 in Chicago at the Schaumburg Renaissance Convention Center.
One of the highlights of the show will be the opportunity to fly the upcoming DCS: C-130J by Airplane Simulation Company before its official launch. Campaign and mission developer Baltic Dragon will be there to showcase his specially crafted C-130J missions that demonstrate the full capabilities of this outstanding new module. Visitors will also have the chance to experience DCS on the impressive SimCraft full-motion simulator, flying missions designed by Baltic Dragon.

Learn to start a MiG-29
Matt Wagner is back once again with another DCS: MiG-29A tutorial video. This one is an in-depth look at how to properly start a MiG-29A. This is a more in-depth tutorial so you’ll know every step and process to get the aircraft started and rolling. From the video, it seems like there will be some shortcuts to get scrambled quickly if you need/want to just get out there.
We’ll be looking to the community to no doubt provide us the quickest way to start a MiG-29.
