Orbx’s move tie-in with Universal’s Jurassic World and Jurassic Park franchise has been released for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Here’s what you need to know about this unique new add-on for the sim.

Explore the islands, watch out for dinosaurs

Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novels so captured the imagination that their movie spin-offs have been going for decades now including the most recent release of Jurassic World Rebirth which came out this past summer. And like so many book to movie franchises, it inspires yet more content in different media including Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Orbx has licensed with Universal Pictures to bring this dinosaur themed experience which maps out the fictional Muertes Archipelago – the home of the Jurassic World theme parks located just off the coast of Costa Rica.

The developers have modeled and animated several dinosaur models including Apatosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Dimorphodon, Gallimimus, Mosasaurus, Pteranodon, Stegosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, and Velociraptor. These presumably use the same wildlife system as the more contemporary creatures found throughout Microsoft Flight Simulator’s world.

The islands have a half dozen airstrips and over a dozen helipads scattered throughout for you to use as launching off points around the islands. There are also activities including VIP transport, photo taking adventures on guided tours, and aviator skill practice in unique locations. Plus it sounds like the whole point is to do what MSFS does best and just explore around the area.

Pricing and bundles

This package is a bit more complex than your usual scenery offering. Orbx are offering just the scenery with themed H125 helicopter, XCub, and King Air 350i liveries for $24.99 USD. Or you can get the scenery plus Volanta premium, the Orbx flight tracking companion software, for $39.99 USD. You can also get the scenery plus the Orbx created PAC 750 bushplane also for $39.99 USD. Or you can get their ultimate pack which bundles absolutely everything together into one purchase for $49.99 USD.

This isn’t going to be for everyone but it sounds like at least some of the community is enthused by the experience and the opportunity to revisit parts of what might be a favourite movie franchise. See if it moves the needle for you. If it does, visit the Orbx website here.
