We’ve got a new video from the 1C Game Studios folks busy producing Korea IL-2 series and IL-2 Great Battles. The video is a wrap-up of 2025 and everything that they’ve done with both sims but its also a bit of a tease of some things to come including the confirmation of new aircraft for Great Battles and a look at the status and plans for Korea. Let’s have a look.

Year in review

The first half of the video is a recap of everything that the team has gone through in the last year. Development of Korea features heavily with some of the gameplay demonstrations, the visual work, and features of the new sim highlighted again. None of this is new but its always useful to recap things that have come down the pipeline so far.

They also spend some time talking about Great Battles including both Flying Circus and Siege and Liberation. The series for example saw the release of the Zeppelin for Flying Circus and most but not all of the aircraft for Siege and Liberation.

Watch the video for the in-depth analysis where you can get a good sense of how things have gone during the year.

Looking ahead, we’ve learned some interesting items about Great Battles and about Korea so let’s talk about them both.

Great Battles

The six new aircraft have not been confirmed, however, they will come out following the conclusion of the work on Siege and Liberation. They have, however, confirmed that the aircraft will fit into previously released careers so expect a collection that fills gaps and enhances previously released content.

Two of the aircraft might be the recently revealed G.50 and B-239 that are being developed by third parties in association with the Finnish map team.

Siege and Liberation is expected to release by the end of winter though they expect to continue to add to that package post release. The maps will pick up additional seasons and career mode will add additional chapters.

Korea

For Korea and the new IL-2 series, the team reports that they expect to enter into closed beta testing early in the new year. After closed beta is complete, early access will begin. The DLC pack for Korea, featuring five not yet revealed airplanes, will be aiming for release by next winter.

We get a little bit of an inside track on the current state of the project. They report that nearly all of their aircraft are finished except for the F-84 and the La-11 which are currently being developed. Game modes and interface are also reportedly mostly ready.

2026 should be an interesting year for the series!

  1. What’s your opinion about Founders Edition of IL-2 Korea? Worth it buying instead of regular edition?

    1. After the initial sticker shock wore off, the pricing is actually not too bad. At $139.99 divided by 13 airplanes (8 plus the 5 unannounced) you’re around $10 a plane. That’s decent value and I’m not even factoring in the map, assets, new tech, etc.

I would like to know is what those 5 other planes are. It’s more a principle of it than a genuine concern that I won’t like one personally – I haven’t met an airplane I didn’t find interesting. I am hoping they do make an announcement early in the new year on what those 5 planes are.

      1. After reading your comment, it doesn’t seem that expensive. What do you think about continuing to invest money in IL-2 Great Battles? There’s a good offer on Normandy at 75% off. I’m missing that module and Odessa.

      2. If you like the aircraft set, Normandy is really good and one of my favourites. The map is spectacular, the aircraft collection excellent. At a sale price like that, easy purchase. Great Battles will fade but slowly I think especially with more content coming for it.

      3. Them not saying what your buying for that money hurt them more then 10$ increase in price. You will get steam key if you buy, we cant have it now on steam because of xyz and when we have it youll have standard version with this 6 airplanes for 70$. Your paying 140$ extra for this 5 airplanes F4u, F9F, SeaFury, A1, Tu-2, and we will add carriers and big ships action. This is what we improved compared to GB list of xyz with pictures or videos comparing 2, this is new game mods we are working on, this is how we improved AI MP and rest… little transparency and they would not have people saying wait a minute im not paying that mutch money for GB 2.0 lite without even knowing what im buying few months before game is suposed to be out.

      4. Oh I think so. Transparency, especially when money is on the table is essential. It leads to more consumer confidence and lessens chances of disappointment due to self-hyped consumer speculation. If the extra planes for Korea are indeed part of a carrier focused add-on, I suspect the value would go up significantly.

    2. From their marketing, I suspect you will probably not lose out on anything if you just get the standard edition now and get the pre-order for the DLC later.

But if you want to be sure to get the Carrier DLC (which it pretty clearly is) as early as possible, you can get the Founder Edition.

  2. For Great Battles, I really would like to have seen a Hungary 1944-45 map and a Poland/East Germany 1944-45 map for four reasons.

    1. A late war Hungary and Poland/East Germany map would cover the fall of Fascist Hungary and Nazi Germany, which is concurrent to Battle of Bodenplatte, and would serve as a good way to wrap up development on IL-2 Great Battles.
    2. A late war double-map module would open up careers for the same Axis planes used in Bodenplatte (Bf-109 G-14 and K-4; Fw-190 A-8 and D-9; Me-262A, ect). All we would really need is the Bf-109 G-10 and the Fw-190 A-9 for the Axis side. Soviet planes such as the La-7, Yak-3 and the IL-2M Model 1944 would be able to serve in other modules in career mode and multiplayer, other than being confined to just one or both maps of Siege and Liberation.
    3. Continuing a little more with Great Battles is another source of income. I have heard that IL-2 Korea might recieve a Mature rating, thus affecting sales in some countries. Great Battles is kind of PG-13 so sticking with Great Battles until they are able to convice countries to lower the rating might not be a bad idea in my eyes.
    4. It might be ten years before they return to the Eastern Front, and I think that there needs to be a late 1944-45 Eastern Front module for this series to fill this gap I see in the market until Korea can do it.

  3. I’d love to see a DB3 or SB to fill out these early 1941 scenarios

    1. Those are fun aircraft. I had some good times with the SB-2 when it was added to IL-2 1946.

  4. I so hope one of these 6 aircraft will be the B-25! Been hoping and wishing for that one since they added the AI plane… Its my favorite twin engine bomber.

    1. Oh yes! A bomber of some kind would be such a good thing. I think it has a slim chance but I’ll keep my hopes up for you and everyone who wants one.

  5. Thanks again for the update. I am in no hurry to buy Korea though probably will.

Other new aircraft? Shame Kursk was never really finished, and I wonder that might also go for the Seelow Heights.

BTW I have not been able to get into sim for forum for a few weeks as I have a *4 error and I cannot seem to get round it. Have created a new forum account but the game will not let me in. Anyone got good suggestions?

  6. A Ju87B-2 and Hs123 would fill out the axis early war roster as well. Maybe throw in the Fi156C to balance the U-2.

    1. I’ve always wanted to see the Hs 123 in the IL-2 series as a flyable airplane.
