DCS World community member, known as VinntoreZ on the forums, has just released the Su-22M4 mod for DCS World. The project has been in the works for almost a year now and is available for download. Let’s have a look.

Su-22M4 mod releases

What is a DCS World release without a cinematic trailer? It’s worth a watch!

Sukhoi’s Su-17 is a variable geometry fighter-bomber that was developed into several variants including the Su-22. The type’s widespread use in Soviet aligned countries during the height of the Cold War, its rugged looks and variable geometry wings make it into a fascinating airplane.

The mod has been in development for quite some time and much of the work has been shared by frequent posts on the DCS World forum. The aircraft has a clickable cockpit and shares quite a bit with the Su-25A from Flaming Cliffs. Due to some of the quirks in the way that the mod works, you need to spawn in a Su-25 before carrying on with your Su-22 flight.

The type has mostly unguided weapons but does work with the Kh-29 missile family as well.

If you’re interested in checking it out, the aircraft is available here in the User Files section. Links to the manual and other information are also available there.

  1. impressive ——- perhaps this is how we can get decent red air into DCS – user mods — not ED per se, nothing any “eastern govts” can do about it

    1. I’m assuming the Su-22 is old enough to get legal information on. Probably a matter of developer interest.

  2. A delightful surprise it was, among bad surprises DCS had last few years.

Eager to fly this bird! 🙂

  4. I am always sceptical when I hear something like “community mod” – it’s very unlikely that programmers that don’t work in ED, (or Magintude, Heatblur, etc) have comparable skills to employees of that companies. I’ll rather wait for the official full fidelity Fitter developed by people that know what they are doing.

    1. Well, ASC got their start by doing the old Hercules mod, and the module is very high quality work. One of the mains way to show ED that you have the capabilities to make a proposed module is modding history, from what I’ve heard.

      1. I understand there are a few especially talented teams, but if so, I think A-4 Skyhawk should already be an official DLC.
