Slated to come out today, January 30, the trailer was apparently still seeing edits right at the last minute which delayed the release. So, for some of you, it’ll be tomorrow when you get a chance to look at it. Delay aside, Eagle Dynamics has once again delivered a slickly presented trailer offering an aspirational look at what DCS World is now and plans to be into the future. As has become something of a tradition with these presentations, there’s a new module revealed officially at the end too. Let’s have a look!

The trailer itself and a general breakdown

At 6 minutes, 9 seconds, the latest cinematic masterpiece showcasing DCS World in all of its glory comes in at roughly average length for the series of trailers released over the years.

Music featured includes Out of My Head by Puddle of Mudd, Prevail by Audiomachine and an unidentifiable cover of La Marseillaise.

Generally speaking the trailer has four segments with a modern focus at the beginning, a segment focused mostly on their WWII Pacific ambitions and assets, a gradual transition back into a mix of modern and historic content, and then the reveal of the new module at the end. Ready for the breakdown? Let’s go!

The breakdown!

As always, we start with the Eagle Dynamics logo. No surprises so far!

Our next couple of shots are focused on new assets. The new C-17 asset (so far as we know, this is still an AI asset and not a new module announcement), new soldier models and new APC asset.

Our next shot takes us over to Heatblur and the F-14B(U) which we’ve been talking about recently. Its a great shot because you can see the F-14B model through the HUD while also seeing the new HUD right there in the foreground.

After that, more ground vehicles and soldier assets. The frequency of them appearing here seems deliberate. We have heard rumblings about more ground warfare and more attention paid to DCS: Combined Arms so there may be some movement on that in 2026 (and beyond of course).

Next two shots go by quickly with blink and you’ll miss it appearances from the DCS: Tornado. It gets shown a few times here with the external model looking nicely textured and in the sim. I’ve learned not to get too excited about that, we’ve seen other models and modules in for years and its not necessarily been indicative of a near release status. Still, terrific to see the work on display.

The other model that gets an initial blink and you’ll miss it is the DCS: Bo 105 (funny that we were just talking about that). This project has been in development for about as long as I’ve been writing Stormbirds or perhaps longer. Its suffered many difficulties and setbacks but it is a single person operation (with some support over the years) and the author is dedicated to bringing it to light. Its appearance here in this presentation suggests maybe that it is finally starting to take shape towards release. Excitement and expectations tempered of course!

Next up! Two cold war jets! The cockpit of Aerges DCS: F-104 Starfighter gets a quick shot and then we transition to a breakaway from Grinnelli Designs DCS: F-100 Super Sabre before jumping back again to the F-104. Early Cold War jets well on their way clearly!

We’ve got some more F-14 Tomcat action in the next shots with some absolutely beautiful moments there.

A couple more quick shots come into view with the F-104 again and the first shot of the Typhoon in the trailer. More on that one in a bit!

Next up, dynamic campaign. A clear message sent with this display that there is progress as we get a beautiful pull back from the ground level up to altitude before switching to an overlaid battle map with unit icons and a newly revealed UI for the whole system. The UI gives me a bit of hope that this project is finally coming together! They clearly show a couple of different maps in this display as well helping to address rumours (that Matt Wagner has dispelled in various Q&A’s) that it was only something that would work on the Caucasus map.

A few more quick shots coming right up. Afghanistan map (I think), the Tornado, and the F-104 showing off some great wingflex effects in a tight turn really impress.

The next shot pair has me a bit more excited about Heatblur’s Typhoon project as well. We’ve seen external shots for a while but cockpit shots with working avionics? That’s new!

Here comes the transition to WWII Pacific for a bit. This is something that we’ve seen for years now and has taken a long time to materialize, but it does appear to be coming along nicely.

Our first shots are naval asset focused. If you’re going to do the Pacific, you better have a good collection of warships and there are quite a few. I’m not an expert on WWII Pacific naval ship types so some of you will be better at identifying the types, but the visuals are quite strong and fit the part.

We quickly get a reminder about the DCS: La-7 as well with a couple of quick shots panning up as a T-34-85 (recently revealed in a new asset release) trundles along underneath.

The next couple of shots appear to be from OnReTech’s Balkans map project, though for a little while I was convinced that we may be looking at a rebuild of DCS: Caucasus with new technology. Balkans seems more likely but I’m interested to hear thoughts on that.

We’ve got another shot, that lingers for a bit, on the Bo 105!

I haven’t featured it yet but there have been several Mirage F1 shots throughout the trailer. Its difficult to see the features specific to the modernized version on the exterior but the cockpit is much more obvious. Love to see Aerges vision for that module reaching its full conclusion.

We get some more C-47 shots too. Great details of course!

And another La-7 shot.

Then a cut to the SB2C Helldiver. Our first look at that asset. So far as we know, its not a flyable project at this point but its great to see it as one of many critical assets.

Rapid fire here… more soldiers.

Another Bo 105 shot…

And more Typhoon avionics shots (this is a good sign)!

Another 104 shot.

And more SB2C… They’ve got the dive brakes and the weapons working so those are good signs too!

A blink and you’ll miss it shot of the Hellcat. I expected to see more the F6F this year and we really haven’t seen much of it.

Another Typhoon shot followed by a working HUD shot showing the system locking up a Su-27 and then perhaps dropping the lock. I’m not too familiar with the symbology here but stuff is generally working.

Then we have THE cinematic shot of the presentation with this A6M Zero group flying between battleships. Very Michael Bay Pear Habour-esq in style and extremely well executed.

Tornado again!

Another Mirage F1 shot.

New soldier animations on display with a soldier tossing a grenade.

We get the briefest glimpse of the B6N “Jill” torpedo bomber as well. Again, blink and you’ll miss it!

A Tornado rounds out this section into the end titles and the usual thank you message that we’ve seen year on year. I know for many it has fallen flat in recent years with so many disputes and disappointments, still, it is there, and for better or worse DCS continues to look to future content as we’ve seen throughout this trailer.

Finally, we have the reveal of the Dassault Rafale. This section is, as we’ve seen in past years, a silhouette reveal with some nice colour and lighting effects. The Rafael is in good company with past reveals including the F-35, F-15C, AH-64, and F-16. Some of those have clearly not arrived yet but one more is in the pipeline.

Finally, we have a few bits of confirmation on how this module is being done. Its not really a big surprise as we’ve known through a couple of official “leaks” that the Rafale was likely to be done for DCS World. The module is being officially licensed by Dassault which means this is probably going to be about as real as it can be for public consumption. Rafale is considerably more modern than some of what we have, however, depending on the variant we have, there’s a lot of crossover with current modules in time period. More interesting is that the module is being done with Heatblur, JFEXP and Fly and Fight. The latter two I have little knowledge of except that JFEXP is involved with AzurPoly’s Rafale for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Curious to see how much crossover there is.

What did you see?

That’s all for now! DCS World 2026 and Beyond trailer is here. It’s a good trailer and though I know many are a bit down on the sim right now, there are some good projects on the go here and some interesting things coming in the future. Will we see many of these in 2026? A few likely but a lot will be coming much later on down the line. We can be realistic that a lot will hinge on the “beyond” part of the title while still being excited about future possibilities.

What did you see? Did I miss something? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Barely any Hellcat stuff. Hate to be a downer but it’s like getting up on Christmas morning and not seeing your BB gun anywhere.

  2. I wonder what will be the great reveal at the end of DCS World: 2027 and Beyond.

It appears that ED has their hands full with their F-15C and their F-35 for the next few years, so I would be very suprised to hear something from them until at least 2028 and Beyond. As for HeatBlur, I think they also are too busy to take on any more projects beyond their A-6E, Typhoon and now their Rafale modules-in-development.

So your guess at this stage is as good as mine.

Getting a little too far ahead there! 🙂

But my guess is that Su-25 full fidelity would be the next announcement. It’s already kind of been made but it was the same for the F-16 and the AH-64.

      1. Sorry for getting a little ahead there. And I think your guess is better than mine actually.

I forgot to think of the F/A-18E Super Hornet that is rumoured to be one of the next planes on Eagle Dynamic’s list of aircraft to do.

I think another one that could be done is the Su-27S in a few years time as their next Redfor aircraft after their Su-25. Thi is the plane that has been with DCS from the very beginning so I think it would mean very much to ED if they are able to make it.

      2. I’d say that and/or a new helicopter. Otherwise I think they have their hands very full.

    2. You are forgetting ED has mentioned multiple times that they are working on a mystery Helicopter. I was expecting it to be revealed here with the rafale but no. So maybe we can expect it to be revealed next year at the end of the 2027 AB video

    3. I was very disappointed not to get a single shot of the F-35, that they announced so wholeheartedly last year and no F-15C either. furthermore i see that the F-15E, Mirage 2000, AV-8B and the Mig-19 are probably not working after 2.9.X

We heard back in December that both projects were going slowly and hadn’t made much progress. I wonder if they had announced them a little early.

And yes, we’ve heard that 3.0 may cause some unsupported modules to stop working. We’ll have to see what happens exactly because right now I don’t see that as set in stone. But I have been warning that this would be an outcome for quite a while too.

      2. I’m not too dissapointed that there was no appearance of the F-15C or the F-35 in the 2026 and Beyond video just been, as I guess they want to share something once it is up to scratch enough to show.

  3. I set myself low expectations with this years video and expected it to be a little less “beyond” this time around and I think that’s probably about right. Other than the Rafale none of it was “unexpected stuff” and most of it have been in development for a while. I was hoping to see more F-100 considering what was shown at the expo but nice to see the F-104 cockpit.

Surprised with the lack of Hellcat been shown.

Good to see other maps with the DC – probably just a sign of “yes we are expanding it and here you go – but first release with be the one map”

I was surprised by the lack of Hellcat too. I figured we’d see a cockpit shot by this point, seeing as its likely one of the next releases. We also saw very little of the new Su-25 model. That’s supposed to be next to release.

I do think F-100 and F-104 have chances for release in this year.

I do say “beyond” does most of the heavy lifting in these presentations but it is nice to see what’s coming either way. Even if its still years away.

    Hot and cold for me.

Tornado… no cockpit. Seems to take much more time. Eurofighter, Bo-105, F-14B and Starfighter are cool, I like!

I am grateful not to hear Nick Grey, after the RAZBAM leak I am done with him.

I don’t understand this war obsession. I feel this is sim about flying, not killing. I just need to watch the news if I want to see people explode.

“Thank you (…) for making our dreams come true”. Well, what are these dreams?

I’m not surprised about the Tornado. It was announced when they had a very basic 3D model and not much else.

The other projects are looking great. I do want to know the Bo 105 story. That one has been through so many ups and downs over the years.

DCS is still very combat oriented though I agree with you that it also offers simulation flying options beyond that too. I’ve talked to people before about carrier landing, aerial refueling, and other kinds of operations that you don’t get flying GA or airliners. But trailers do have to be exciting and blowing stuff up has that effect.

      1. I frequently fly non-combat missions. And combat missions.

        both have their place.

just never occurred to me to criticize a game where combat is a core feature! 😎

    2. The product is literally called Digital COMBAT Simulator. The non combat sims guys are all in the Blue Oyster Bar having a Margerita.

      1. it’s not about killing – that would be a First Person Shooter game.
and even then, it’s about winning, not killing.

do you never watch a movie where people die/are killed? They’re some of the most popular ever made – world wide.

there have been combat video games, and air combat video games, for pretty much as long as video games have been around. Again, a very popular genre.

so if you really feel the combat aspect isn’t for you, there are some good military aircraft in the civ sims like XP, MSFS, and P3D.

  5. I suspect you missed some of the core improvements shown (or at least you didn’t mention them, or barely mentioned them).

The infantry animations in the video are far superior to anything we’ve seen in DCS so far. The soldiers talk to each other, behave more humanely, and can board helicopters or the cargo hold of the C-130.

Some of the explosions also look much better than the current ones. And they have a greater impact on the environment. Falling trees, anyone?

EA is currently focusing heavily on these kinds of things, and it’s clear from the video.

      EA? You mean ED? 😊

I did mention the new soldiers and associated animations. I suspect more Combined Arms related items are going to be focused on over the next few years. Boarding vehicles I missed, good spot!

I didn’t mention the trees falling. I seem to recall seeing that before. I could be mistaken.

  6. The big reveal was a bust. Everyone already knew that plane was coming.

The star of the show for me was the F-104. I’d happily trade the Typhoon, Rafale, and Tornado for a lovely Starfighter.

    Like

    1. The Rafale was a worst kept secret for sure! I did find it interesting that it’s a Heatblur project and that its connected with the same group working with AzurPoly… that business side of things may be more of a niche personal interest but I did learn something from that! 🙂

F-104 was looking spectacular. That wingflex in the pull… excellent! Fortunately, we don’t have to trade anything as all of those are on their way!

    2. I mean I really like the Starfighter, but IRL it was a mediocre combat aircraft at best.
what it had going for it was its speed, and that helped it as being a nuclear strike fighter

it maybe was a decent point interceptor once they gave it radar and sparrows, but…meh

  7. and not a single Redfor. Sad panda:(

I was really hoping beyond would bring a Su 27.

not really surprised by anything, its everything we already knew and discussed here 100 times.

    1. If I were to guess, finishing up the MiG-29 first, Su-25 full fidelity would be the next Redfor project, and then Su-27 perhaps after that. I’m sure they will do it.

  8. If one goes back and compares what was revealed (not promised) in the DCS & Beyond videos, the track record is pretty good. With small features being released in a year, modules in maps often in 2 or 3 years and major core updates taking longer. Videos from 2000-2023 are pretty well a reality in DCS today. The 2024 video has had a lot realized and likely to have more released in 2026. I have only been in DCS for 3 years and it is very noticeable the difference at the core level and dramatically different when one considers the modules and maps released in that time. I am looking forward to what is coming, but I am also just happy with what we have gained up to this point.

Pro:—The Tornado is seen doing a bunch of stuff including employing weapon Seems like it is a decent way along.—- A lot of the new assets look amazing—-The BO 105—-Iron Mike said on Discord is that at the latest the Eurofighter is planned to be in ED internal testing by the end of the year. So there is a decent chance this year we get the B(U) an EF2000. Either that or early next year. —Dynamic Campaign…… nuff said—Explosion effects and trees falling over.

Con—The only concern for me is the Pacific Assets. When they first showed them off in a newsletter almost a year ago they had 3d imagery of a Fletcher class destroyer, and a Val Dive bomber. Since then they vastly expanded the unit list with thier late last year newsletter. However since then and in this video they have only shown off a Cleveland Class light cruiser, the Catalina. and this wierd hybrid Mogami. It has the front end of a Mogami Class heavy cruiser but the aft flight deck of Tone Class heavy cruiser with no guns aft. Beyond that only a zero was shown, no land units at all and a single brief shot of some sort of US destroyer from super far away in the Anchorage shot. In every other shot it was just repeats of the Cleveland Class and that wierd Japanese hybrid.

This makes me wonder if the Pacific Assetts got a complete start over last year, and are a LONG WAY off. I hope that they will release the AI Cleveland, Zero, and Catalina Assett, and indeterminate Japanese cruiser for free to help get pacific game play going in the meantime. Plus the Cleveland and Catalina can be used in Normandy. Im sure Reflected would welcome that.

Pacific Assets has been in the works for quite some time so hopefully all of those efforts have solidified into a final product that is coming sooner than later. Hellcat plus the assets plus the already released Corsair would be a great way to start off. That said, I hope we see all of those assets release around the same time so its not half a pack and we have to wait a year for the rest. That’d really deflate the possibilities.

The reasons why the ships concern me so much is one of my hobbies is Naval History. Drachinfel on youtube is a great source if you want an accurate historically researched 5 minute guide on each ship. The Japanese produced only a lmited set of heavy cruisers. the Myoko Class- 4 total, the Mogami- Class 4 total, Takao Class – 4 total, Tone Class- Two total, Aoba Class – 2 total, Furataka Class – Two Total.

Now the first 3 I mentioned are the bread and butter. They all follow the same pattern. 3 Dual turrets forward, and 2 aft. The ship they featured has the front turrets and arrangement of a Mogami Class.

Now we have the specialist Tones. They had 4 dual turrets forward, and the aft was covered by a massive flight deck for as many as 7 seaplanes for scouts. Japanese Carries didnt carry scouts, vs the Americans where the Dauntless and Helldiver were dedicated Scouts as well as dive bombers.

the ship they showed has a Mogami front end kitbashed with a Tone backend. Unless there was some sort of one off, ultra late war refit of a Mogami that removed the rear turrets and installed a flight deck I am not thinking of, the ships they modeled never existed. If it did, it was an extreme end of the war rarity and doesnt fit the time period much less being the major Japanese surface combatant representation.

(The Aoba and Furataka Classes were the first attempts at heavy cruisers and had only 3 dual turrets- 2 forward and 1 aft.)

Also due to the lack of US ship diversity they repeat the Cleveland Class over and over again. They only made 27 ships and that first shot of them sitting at anchorage has nearly as many as were ever made… lol

  10. Still going strong for sure 🙂 We can love DCS or hate DCS. It doesn’t really matter, because DCS is the king of the hill. Nothing else is even close when it comes to military flight sims. These beyond videos is a large part of it, keep the dreams alive. Really well done. The Rafale reveal gave me goose bumps, a fantastic little show.
