We have some news from PMDG on the status of a few of their projects. The 737-900 is next up in the release plan with the -600 expected to follow not long after it. We also have a sense of when the -700 is coming and a bit of development news and priority for the DC-6 MSFS 2024 update. Let’s have a look!
737 plans
PMDG’s plan to release the next bunch of NG updates in January clearly has come and gone, however, the latest update from Robert S. Randazzo from PMDG Simulations details plans to release their next NG variants. The 737-900 for MSFS 2024 is planned to arrive sometime this week. It’s already in progress over at the Marketplace too so that, and Marketplace livery packages, are on their way.
The 737-600 will be coming shortly after that with release expected sometime around Valentines Day according to the update (that’s February 14th).
The 737-800, out since December, is set to receive Update 18 with a series of tweaks and improvements including a micro-stutter that was causing some issues (particularly for VATSIM users reportedly). This issue was a big enough challenge to delay efforts to release the rest of the line-up.
The 737-700 will be the last to see an update and is expected to go into beta-testing mid-February. Beta testing will reveal if this product is also a February release or if it gets pushed into March.
The entire NG series is apparently due for a visual update as well. This process apparently nearly held up the -800 release but they decided to release anyways.
The change includes a significant refresh/update of model geometry, textures, animations and adds some feature to the exterior not currently present in the airplane. We’ll put together a highlight post to walk you through the changes, but I suspect you’ll see them quite evidently when we finish rolling them out.
The process of updating these models is expected to be complete around the same time that the -700 releases – late February or sometime in March.
Unfortunately, no indication on what the upgrade price is. PMDG attracted an awful lot of flak with their higher pricing for the 737-800 and its unclear if the upgrade price for other, cheaper models like the -600 and -900, will be similarly high or scaled back based on initial sale price.
DC-6 when?
PMDG’s DC-6 fans are a small but vocal group of enthusiasts and there have been a lot of questions when this classic type will come to 2024. The aircraft has been moved to OC3 software for MSFS 2020 fans but as yet has not got a 2024 release.
According to Robert, the DC-6 is a port and not a rebuild though it did need some added attention to get it working correctly with the 2024 SDK. Modeling development is reportedly part of the update so some things will be changing.
