Its taken a back seat to other projects in the limelight but Heatblur reports that “the storm continues to build” as work progresses on the Typhoon. Here’s what we know about the latest update on development.

Typhoon progresses

Heatblur report that the Typhoon is growing closer as they say that much of their efforts are focused on the Typhoon right now as a flagship project. Progress flight model approaching completion, radar and weapon systems starting to be functional, and core systems are connected to displays and user interfaces.

Notably, it looks like Heatblur will be using a slightly more Eagle Dynamics approach to releasing the aircraft with step by step additions of capabilities starting with air to air at first and adding air to ground later. Here’s more of what was said:

While the Eurofighter will likely buck the trend of completion level for Heatblur modules, offering a step-wise approach to air to air first and air to ground later, our goal is to ensure that you are left with a visceral, immersive, authentic high fidelity modern canard experience on day one, complete within the focus of each step; laying the backbone and foundation for a long term roadmap exploring this mainstay of various air forces.

In some ways, this mirrors some of the early Tranches of Eurofighter arriving with more limited capabilities at first and adding growing multirole capability later on in its life.

Heatblur end the update by saying that more systems will be coming online and both information and deep dives into system functionality are coming.

Heatblur also mention that other projects such as the F-14BU are getting “ever closer” as well. As is typical with Heatblur, projects often take a long time to complete but the results have often been class leading. Looking to see more of that from them here.

  1. I don’t think we have had a truely substantial release or genuine bit of news from ED in about a year now.

Just constant sales and strange and very late releases like the La 7. Losing me fast I’m afraid chaps.

    1. Superhuman patience is definitely required for DCS. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say we’ll be into the 2030s before we get some of the announced modules. It’s still the best flightsim though.

if im lucky, ill hop in and do a weasels over syria sortie.

And what a fun module it is!

They’ve had a bunch of busy years and I suspect the busy releases have been the result of a half decade or more of preparation. Now it seems like there’s a bit of a lull.

I’m not too concerned about that. The last several years have been busy ones and with all of the releases, I’m happy to see a bit of a lull while features are finished off on several projects. We did just get the MiG-29 as another poster mentioned and its not too far off the CH-47.

Of course we know that the F6F-5 Hellcat and F-35 are in the development process.

  3. I don’t have any particular love for the Typhoon, but if it’s Heatblur I’ll buy it. Had no particular love for the F-4 or F-14 either. But bought them both and enjoy them both because… Heatblur.

    1. Exactly my feelings, too.
I’m kinda hoping the F-14 BU upgrade brings it “close enough” for me to switch my main ride from the Hornet to the Tomcat.

I love the Hornet and all the Digital systems and advanced weps, but man do I really like the way the Tomcat handles!

I’ve read pilot reports saying the Typhoon is one heck of an incredible airplane to fly. I’m curious to see what that’s all about!

  4. What do these images reveal about the Eurofighter? Are there any interesting features shown here? Any small details that might give us clues about the systems, weapons, or other aspects included?

I’m a bit surprised at how little these preview images have been analyzed by the community so far, especially compared to other releases like the F-16.

That’s a good question and the answer for me is: I’m not sure! I think with the F-16 we had BMS before it to provide for a comparison and built in understanding. Nothing has done the Typhoon to this level of visual and systems fidelity.

I kind of figure I’ll get into it once it arrives.
