We’re learning more about the underlying technology behind IL-2 Series Korea with a second look at scenery elements in the sim. This time, we’re learning more about what they have planned for industrial areas, extraction industry, dams and even some interesting tidbits about flowing water. Let’s have a look.

More scenery elements on display

1CGS are sharing more information about their upcoming IL-2 Series Korea release and this time its focused on industry. As you’d expect, the team have done a lot of research into different types of industrial buildings of early 1950s Korea and have build warehouses, factories, materials storage, and smokestacks. The smokestacks feature a new dynamic destruction system which makes it sounds like they will crumble in a realistic way. Unlike civilian aviation sims, IL-2 Series is ensuring that industrial zone attack missions will have some visual flare. They make special mention to say that they have added new extraction industry buildings too: slurry ponds, dredges, ore hoists, etc.

Seaports have seen some changes from their IL-2 days. With new translucent water technology, the team have developed more tools to make seaports believable and for their layouts to appear more visually complex with underwater parts visible.

Another dynamic destruction system is bridges. This sounds like a more sophisticated version of what we’ve already seen in the Great Battles series with additional complexity and bridge types. There are some impressive bridges on display in screenshots.

Dams, another new feature, include varying heights of water, water flow effects, and so forth. They make special note to say that visualization of water flowing is now part of the experience with open spillways and damaged areas of the dam (should they be hit by sufficient fire) displaying visually. Ok! That sounds interesting.

  2. scenery is important. Especially for immersion and VR. One of my biggest gripes with BMS is the complete absence of low-altitude detail.

fantastic gameplay and AI, but the immersion for me just isnt there.

Really looking forward to Korea. If they added clicky-cokpits, it would be perfect. They went through all the trouble for adding on-the-ground immersion, climbing out of your plane, taking a jeep to your plane, etc. But didnt want to add switches.
