1C Game Studios is back again with “Dev Blog 71” and a new development update focused, this time, on the details of airbases in the sim. We’re seeing an ongoing evolution of the sim on an almost weekly basis so there are some interesting insights to see here. Let’s have a look.

Details and doodads

1C Game Studios is looking to up the ante quite a bit over the Great Battles series when it comes air base details. They’ve already talked about overall structure and appearance of airbases but now they are diving into the smaller details.

Spare parts, aircraft undergoing maintenance and rearmament, mobile cranes, fuel tankers and cylinders, and various other objects have been created to help provide the details of airbases in the new sim.

1CGS are also reporting the various ground textures have been updated again since the last update.

It is also worth mentioning the refined ground textures. Even compared to the Dev Diary published two updates ago, which showcased our work on the environment, we have further enhanced the level of detail in this environmental element. The ground surface now blends much more seamlessly with all the objects situated upon it.

Interesting to see the ongoing evolution of this new title as it heads towards release. I haven’t heard anything new yet on that front and the release window should be coming up quite soon now. There are a few developer diary updates I’d still like to hear quite a bit on including how the new sim handles AI in combat and what improvements we’ll see there. Hoping for that soon.

  2. It’s actually a bit annoying that this looks so much better than Great Battle Series. I am more interested in WWII and I would even pay to get this quality in their old series.

It is good to see the progress. This is the next generation of 1CGS’ product line and you’re in luck that they’ve been pretty clear they will be going back to revisit WWII content.

Indeed. You’ve read it here even 😊

The bomber DLC I’m very excited about!

    2. I think if they did Vietnam after Korea using the same engine, it would be wicked. I think it could be similar in a lot of ways to Korea, but they will have to add behavior for radars, SAMs, and missiles.

I don’t remember seeing anywhere if it’ll be SteamVR only, hopefully OpenXR will be an option.

  4. Great update! This has been one of the knocks with IL2 GB since it was released, and well you could go back to IL2 46 as well in that the sim never felt alive, or as lived in as we all wanted. The world was always a bit too sterile. Glad to see they are making improvements in that area this is exciting to hear.

And I’m sure you will be able to turn this stuff off as well to increase performance if need be too.

Man this is shaping up to be a great sim, and a great foundation for the future for other theaters.
