One of the biggest issues with the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battles Series is that it never had a built in training system intended to get you started with the sim. It made it difficult for newer players to get involved and we saw efforts like Utopioneer’s Flight School Campaigns to help get you up and running. For IL-2 Series Korea the experience is built in.
Details on the new training system

The new training system will let you choose an aircraft and get yourself acquainted with it. 1CGS are reporting thanks to their latest Developer Diary that the new mode will have four missions for each aircraft. The missions start you with basic tasks: takeoff, low altitude flight, and landing. The second mission will have you attack ground targets. A third will focus on air combat with each aircraft facing off against scenarios intended for that type of aircraft.
The fourth exam puts it all together into a complete combat mission. Here’s a little of what 1CGS had to say about the fourth.
Here, the player must carry out a full-scale combat mission, which is most specific to the given aircraft model and generally corresponds to what they will have to do at the front lines. For the Il-10, this will be a ground-attack mission to prevent enemy armored forces from advancing. For the F-51D — intercepting a group of Il-10 ground attack aircraft to cover friendly ground troops. For the Yak-9 — direct escort of a group of Il-10s attacking enemy positions. For the La-11 — gaining air superiority (air patrol) with an encounter with a group of enemy fighters. The F-80C-10 will perform its characteristic role as a strike aircraft with an attack on an enemy airfield. The F-84E will also appear in the typical role of a fighter-bomber with the task of attacking enemy ground troops. The Sabre and MiG have their own little war: the MiG-15bis will perform its textbook task of intercepting a large formation of heavy enemy bombers at high altitude, while the F-86A-5, understandably, will receive an exam assignment in the form of escorting such a formation against MiG attacks.
1CGS state that the goal is to make sure that a player is feeling confident with their abilities in their chosen aircraft before carrying on with other missions. It does seem reasonably comprehensive and it’ll be interesting to put it to the test.
