Microsoft has announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 that Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update 22 is coming July 4th and with it a new update focused on the United States and specifically its national parks. Plus there’s a new racing experience coming this fall. Let’s have a look.

Visit parks, fly the Goodyear

US National Parks, of which there are many varied and impressive locales, is the focus for World Update 22. Over thirty parks are being given the world update treatment with what appears to be specialized visuals and new points of interest.

In the trailer we’re shown the following:

  • Acadia in Maine
  • Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina
  • Dry Tortugas in Florida
  • Big Bend in Texas
  • Guadalupe Mountains in Texas
  • Rocky Mountains in Colorado
  • Great Sand Dunes in Colorado
  • Canyonlands in Utah
  • Bryce Canyon in Utah
  • Zion in Utah
  • Death Valley in California
  • Yosemite in California
  • Crater Lake in Oregon
  • Mount Rainier in Washington
  • North Cascades in Washington
  • Glacier in Montana
  • Yellowstone in Wyoming
  • Badlands in South Dakota
  • Grand Canyon in Arizona

The visuals certainly look impressive!

National Championship Air Races

Air Racing returns to Microsoft Flight Simulator with an announcement that the National Championship Air Races are coming to the sim this fall. This will undoubtedly be a spiritual sequel to the Reno Air Races that came in MSFS 2020. More details are likely as we get closer to launch.

I would love to take a peek behind the curtains to see the decision making process on World Updates.

I totally believe some countries either don’t have good data, or want too much money for it (my wife works in traffic analysis, and hoo boy…!).

But I do wonder if it’s as simple as that…

IMHO, countries should consider looking at it like a tourism marketing campaign, or something along those lines…?

Anyhow, I appreciate all the ongoing FREE content from MS. Definitely The Best bang for the buck in flight sim history! 🎉
