Heatblur Simulations have released a new video which provides us with a five minute overview of how some of the new features work on the upcoming DCS: F-14B(U) module expansion. Getting a sense for how all of the systems plug into each other is interesting and gives a far better sense of what we can expect when the expansion comes out. Let’s have a look!

Dig into the VDIG(R)

Replace the old VDI and HUD with the integrated VDIG(R) and you get something that more resembles what you might find in the F/A-18C Hornet than the older model F-14s. Heatblur’s 5-minute and 38-second overview shows off just how much more situational awareness and how much more functionality move forward to the pilot-seat with the upgraded systems.

Some of the highlights: the HUD displays multiple targets when in TWS mode and the pilot can cycle and designate targets from there. When using the LANTIRN pod you’ll get a full display of where the pod is pointed right on the HUD making it easier to spot target areas and see where multiple JDAM targets are designated. Another feature improved are the displays and flight path markers for the aircraft which are available in all flight modes. Additional displays make landing on an aircraft carrier easier than before as well – that should pair nicely with the digital augmentation system for easier overall handling.

I suggest you watch the full video to get the complete overview and see it in action!
