Its usually a good sign when a module under development can perform a complete flight: start-up, takeoff, combat, return to base, landing and shut down. A lot of work needs to come together to make that possible and it seems to be happening for Red Star Simulations DCS: MiG-17F module currently in development.

A complete MiG-17F flight

Posted by developer GVad The Pilot on YouTube, this almost 30 minute long video is both an example of work completed to date as well as a tutorial on how to fly and fight the MiG-17F in a ground attack focused sortie. GVad shows off the type’s start-up, taxi, takeoff, and landing so you can get a feel for flying the aircraft. There’s also a bit of combat with employment of the Egyptian specific 80mm Sakr rockets as well as some strafing with the 23mm and 37mm cannons. Another Egypt specific configuration is a red box in the cockpit that helps control the weapons setup for said rockets. Of course, these are optional and you can choose to equip the MiG-17 with a more traditional arrangement sans rockets and the red box.

One notable bit is the custom gun sound effects which seem to be pretty impressive from the video. That 37mm really has a nice kick sound to it.

Give it a listen and stay tuned for more on the DCS: MiG-17’s progress.
