Korea IL-2 Series release trailer confirms carrier DLC!

Officially official, Korea IL-2 Series has arrived and is now in full release on both Steam and on the official IL-2 Series storefront. It has been previously available as an early access title as the team finished up some last minute items and ironed out some of the issues with the sim. Now its out though the road ahead will no doubt see many more updates.

As reported yesterday, IL-2 Series has officially launched with their Korean War title now out of early access and available for sale via the official IL-2 Series website and via Steam.

Pricing has, as expected, switched from early access to full launch pricing with discount pricing no longer in place.

There’s been a slight change of the mix of what is on sale now with Standard, Premium and Deluxe Edition priced at $79.99 USD, $99.99 USD, and $169.99 USD respectively. That is 6, 8 and 13 aircraft respectively with the Premium including the F-84 and La-11 Collector Planes while the Deluxe includes all of that plus the five unannounced DLC pack aircraft.

Carrier DLC confirmed

The last few seconds of the release trailer (embedded above) confirms that carrier content is coming to IL-2 Series. The video shows an Essex class carrier’s bow with the camera slowly panning up while a propeller engine sound increases.

An F4U Corsair can be seen with its distinctive bent wing design, as a blur, passing above as the trailer ends. Corsairs were heavily used from both carrier and land bases during the war.

Both the F4U Corsair (in one shot it appears as a -4 model) and the F9F Panther, have been spotted in UI examples as well. Those confirm two of the five DLC aircraft confirmed.

We hope to know much more very soon.

    Due to some complaints they also edited the description on Steam to make clear that the F-84 and La-11 were collector planes, whereas previously it seemed that the base game included all eight aircraft.

    I am very excited to see what the Carrier DLC has to offer alongside the beloved Corsair. I’m assuming the F9F Panther as well?

      Oops, I forgot your last paragraph immediately after I read it. F9F pretty much confirmed, but I am also wondering what will be on the side of the DPRK in the upcoming DLC.

        Unclear what other aircraft might be included. I’m hoping we also get the Sea Fury and Meteor. That leaves one more aircraft but I’m not sure what Red Team would get at this point.

        They are lacking jetpowered Bombers, so my best guess would be an IL-28. I really do hope for that iconic plane.

    They definately must be going to the Pacific next. The question is – where exactly? It’s fun to speculate.

      yes Pacific is probably next, i expect later war 44-45. But i think if sales are not so good they gona go back to safe area of WW2 in europe

        I think it will sell well. A remake of the Pacific Fighters dlc (from 1946) has been wanted for years by the community. But it does baffle me as to why they would choose to go to the Pacific when there is a lot of competition from other simulators like DCS and Combat Pilot. But I trust they know what they are doing.

        “I think it will sell well” with this AI and comands to it, i highly doubt , its hard to see any improvments from GB , they will need to focus more on it to make SP expiriance worth playing

      My guess is Guadalcanal, because it involved a lot of air combat, had carriers, but also a lot of fighting on land. It also lasted 6 months, allowing for a pretty lengthy career.

        That makes a lot of sense for them to go to Guadalcanal. But again, Combat Pilot are planning on going there sometime in the not-to-distant future. But again, I think that IL-2 and Combat Pilot will be different enough to coexist together in the combat flight sim market.

        Combat Pilot are doing Midway first. Probably so they can get away with a small map with mostly sea, requiring little mapping effort.

        Perhaps they will choose different settings. Ultimately it is going to be hard for Combat Pilot to make up for the big lead that IL-2 has, and the best bet is for them to find some advantage where they can differentiate themselves.

    AI needs work, i expected 80$ so i got that one, not much interest in La11, and from yt videos that cockpit view is not what i realy need when they had better option in La-9, ill probably get F-64 later when its on discount, I do not understand why they dont make campaign dynamic where i can move frontlines with my actions, much more interesting to play then this what they made in korea, and if argument is is not historical, well this is also not historical, just look the missions and how close to frontlines some airplanes have to fly and they would never do that in real war. But again if AI is not so much improved no campaign change will help in long run.

    I am trying really hard to generate some personal enthusiasm for this sim, but….it’s just another pointless war with nothing particularly memorable; a nutcase regime invades a US puppet and the front line goes vaguely back and forth with an air-campaign 99% bombing small villages and 1% any kind of aerial combat. Losses over 3 years about the same as one month or even a few weeks in WW2

    I’ll probably buy it as the aircraft have a certain charm but TBH I suspect it will sit fairly unplayed.

      Certainly historical data like that is relevant to history discussion but when it comes to a combat flight simulator its less relevant when we’re only ever really experiencing the highlight reels. Air combat in Korea as a combat flight sim is every bit as intense as the WWII stuff that I’ve flown.

      IMHO, I think coming for the aircraft and staying for them is the best thing no matter what. And these are very lovingly recreated.

        I totally agree. The major strongpoint compared to let’s say DCS is, that it’s not only the planes and map but the whole environment. Down to a storage crate sitting somewhere at an airfields storage facility.

        That immerses you way more than Sandboxsimulators with stand in objects, or small asset packs.

        The Onlinemissionexperience so far shows well thought out missions, which orient them selfes at historical events but dont limit you to the actual numbers of planes used. That leads to an airwar several orders of magnitude hotter than the original one. But that generates a lot of fun. Working with these aircraft is quite joyfull. No one else tackeled that subject so far with that fidelity. DCS may have better modelling of Sabre and Mig15, but thats it. No other planes of that war, no Ground Objects, no Map. (And the Sabre at least is some kind of frankenplane and dated) So you really should think about it, if the planes alone interest you.

        If not however, you should really save your money. Putting it into combat pilot, or dcs, bms … Whatever your taste is like 😉

    There couldn’t be a better experience with IL-2 Korea here since I bought it. Premium Edition.

    Still delving into its systems while having a blast on its mission generator. Yet to start the Career.

    Man… can’t wait for the carrier DLC and a Corsair. It seems like they will snatch some cash out of me for a Corsair before DCS could.

    There is actually meat here for a 2 to 3 clicks to start up action.

    I love the addition IL-2 Korea just did on the sim genre. Waiting for more.
