The latest DCS World Weekend news is out and its focused on the AH-64D module from Eagle Dynamics. The developers are adding a fairly substantial set of new capabilities for the George AI that will affect both gunner seat and pilot seat operations. The data transfer cartridge (DTC) functionality being added is also quite extensive from the sounds of things. Let’s have a look!
George gets a bit smarter, DTC update
The latest work on DCS: AH-64D has been focused on improving George AI. This is the gunner AI system that can also take over and fly the helicopter if you want it to and it has some new tricks.
New features that are incoming include new flight and new combat maneuvers when in the pilot role. George can now orbit a target location, perform a holding pattern, return to a previous location, immediately descend to low altitude to avoid air defense, and even mask behind a hill. He’ll also be able to dispense chaff, flares, return fire with the 30mm, and more.
George will also have new callouts warning of enemy weapons fire though apparently the programming includes delayed reactions when he’s focused on the TADS. Seems like a good nod to realism.
Meanwhile, the DTC functionality for AH-64D is also coming along. Eagle Dynamics report that the initial feature set will include waypoint and hazard information, routes, engagement areas and battlefield lines, navigation presets and custom threat tables.
