Microsoft, Working Title and iniBuilds have revisited Famous Flyer 10 with a completely revised and essentially new Boeing 707-320C release for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The aircraft makes some significant advances over the one released a couple of years ago. Let’s see what has changed!

Finally worthy of the legend?

This is another instance of the Microsoft team working to “make it right.” Back in 2024, Aeroplane Heaven released Famous Flyer 10 to much fanfare and then almost immediate disappointment as serious problems and basic functionality issues with the systems, the model, sounds, and even the parking brake were found with the airplane. Little was done to fix it and the release languished… until now.

Now, forget all of that, because Microsoft look to have made things right with a complete re-release.

Significant re-release

Available today in the Marketplace, Famous Flyer 10: The Boeing 707-320C, is now available with a half dozen historic liveries (including Air India, Alaska, Pan Am, and TWA), three navigation system styles, a virtual flight engineer, dedicated EFB app, deep system simulation and various realism adjustments.

This new release is seemingly an entirely new effort with Microsoft, iniBuilds and WorkingTitle coming together to make the aircraft a reality.

The navigation systems bear some explanation as the aircraft now sports a Carousel IV-A INS with simulated alignment procedure, position drift, waypoint management and in-flight position update systems all functioning. The system has room for just 9 waypoints meaning waypoints ahead need to be inputted as longer flights continue… or get the flight engineer system to do it for you. The real world system doesn’t understand SIDs and STARs but you can do that optionally for modern airspace operations. Also available is a UNS-1 FMS with RNAV capability for modern route flying and a Garmin GNS 530 GPS which really was fitted to some 707s.

There’s now a EFB app with its own interface that gives you various options, a performance calculator, door and aircraft configuration controls, and more. That is also paired with a virtual flight engineer which guides you through the setup, manages engines in climb, cruise and descent, manages pressurization and more.

There are also various realism settings so more casual flyers can take the aircraft on a joyride while classic airliner sim fans can dig into the operations a bit more.
