It’s Friday and we have another DCS World Weekend News update. The highlight this week is a status check on IndiaFoxtEcho’s DCS: Fiat G.91 that the developer is currently working on. This Cold War jet is making progress towards completion. Let’s see what they have to say.

The “Gina” progresses

IndiaFoxtEcho has been providing regular updates through their own Facebook page over recent months so much of what we see today is familiar information. Still, it doesn’t hurt to check in and see what the latest status us on an in development module.

The project appears to be coming together with the developer report saying that integration of various systems are now coming together to form a singular airplane simulation.

A fully custom external flight model (EFM) built around the aircraft’s aerodynamic surfaces has been created as has a custom simulation of the Bristol Siddeley Orpheus jet engine. The aircraft now has a four-rocket JATO option makes for a loud and explosively high level of acceleration. Other details include custom simulated hydraulics, electrical, and fuel systems.

The update spends some time talking about period specific weapons. That includes the manually guided Nord AS-20. Meanwhile the later model R/4 variant will have dedicated Sidewinder capability for enhanced air-to-air engagement capability.

The damage model is also now being integrated with the aircraft tracking loads on important parts of the airframe. Battle damage as well as overstress from frenetic flying can both damage the airplane.

The G.91 is becoming much more than a small vintage fighter. It is shaping into a lively, hands-on tactical aircraft with guns, rockets, manually guided missiles, emergency systems—and four JATO rockets waiting beneath the fuselage.

Stay tuned for more!
