We’ve got a new Developer Stream from the Microsoft Flight Simulator team hot off the presses. Jorg, Sebastian, and Martial all presenting together with community manager Matt (Chewwy) and a selection of guest appearances from other developers. We learn about the next world update, progress on the Embraer 600, reveal of the AN-28 and more!

The road ahead

The latest developer stream covers the usual range of items involving core technologies, recent releases, various question and answer segments and more! There were some fairly extensive answers on the Terrain & Object LOD System with improvements projected in that area.

Chris Burnett from Working Title gave an overview of a new app for the EFB with a whole new Ground Services system and functionality that should give MSFS aircraft using the EFB similar capabilities to some of the payware (and freeware) airliners and business jets.

Matt Nischan from Working Title also did a preview focused on the Praetor 600 business jet that they and Asobo have partnered on. There were some demonstrations on just how deep the systems are and there are some cool visualizations to go along with them (Black Square seems to have started a trend).

World Update 23 has been revealed to cover Poland & The Baltics. The World Update will include 12 new areas of interest, 5 hand crafted airports, 77 points of interest, 3 discovery flights, 5 precision landings (or 4 landing challenges for MSFS 2020), 1 Rally Race, and 1 Guided Tour.

To try and match the theme, we’ve learned that AT Simulations (responsible for the AN-2), is bringing the AN-28 to the sim as Local Legend 26. Though not explicitly a Polish airplane, Jorg reports that they had licensing issues for other Polish types and the AN-28 was built and flown in Poland so its as close as they could get to a Local Legend.

Release dates? Local Legend 26 AN-28 and World Update 23 are due in October. National Championship Air Races Sim Update 7 is also due in October for MSFS 2024 and Sim Update 17 in November for 2020.

Check out Jorg’s updated roadmap here!
