It’s been a long time since X-Plane picked up a new turboprop airliner (FlyJSim released their Q4XP back in 2021!) but there is a new offering on the horizon that is attracting some attention from around the community. DeltaWing Simulations has been detailing their efforts to bring an ATR 72-600 for X-Plane 12. Let’s have a look!

DeltaWing Simulations are better known for their military offerings: Viggen SF-37, F-16C/D, Mirage 2000-5 and their CRJ series of medium fidelity airliners. They have been cooking up a new project over the last few years and the developer is reportedly still targeting a release in late 2026 if all goes well.

The ATR 72-600 project had working systems back in April and the team has been working on visuals, the insides first and now the outsides as well. The latest screenshot releases have shown us the exterior and we can see that its looking pretty good.

Prior projects, including the CRJ700/900/1000 have been mid-fidelity offerings with a few simplifications. Though they have made strides to add fidelity over time which has helped to up the ante. We’ll have to see what this ATR offering ends up hitting in terms of fidelity levels and what price point it arrives at.

Two other developers are actively working on ATR related projects. SkyCatsLab is working on a similar ATR 72-600 while Mango Studios is reportedly doing an ATR 72-500. It looks like 2026/27 might be the year of the ATR for X-Plane if all of these releases hit around the same time.
