Checking in on Miltech Simulations! The Microsoft Flight Simulator developer has been busy over the summer preparing their U-2 variants for launch and they have just revealed that they are doing what they teased a few months ago: A Bombardier/De Havilland Canada Dash 8! We’ve all been asking to see this airframe and Miltech are bringing a unique combination of variants to the fore. Let’s have a look!

Dash 8s coming

Since the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, a lot of us have been wondering where the high quality Dash 8 airliners were. Majestic is still reportedly working on a Q400 but its been years of development and no release just yet. SimWorks Studios threw their hat into the ring earlier in the year and now Miltech has confirmed their teased Dash 8 simulation of their own. Now its getting crowded

They’ve confirmed a -200 and -300 variant that includes custom systems and a reported “study level” approach to the aircraft.

With co-operation of PAL Aerospace and PAL Airlines we will bring the DHC-8 to MSFS2024 in 2026! From military to civilian, we have everything; including ‘study level’ avionics, fully custom UNS-1 FMS, systems and failure simulations. Featuring over 60 liveries, the Miltech Classic Series 8 has something for everyone. Developed and tested by a team of pilots certified on the type.

Confirmation of Q200 and Q300 variants with passenger, maritime patrol, and ISR variants on the Q200 and a paratrooper version on the Q300 have also been confirmed showing off the Dash 8’s military pedigree as well as its popular usage in civil aviation around the world.

U-2 variants on the way

Miltech’s current project is entering the beta test stage with three variants of the aircraft: a U-2S (digital glass cockpit), U-2R (analog instrumentation), U-2S (digital glass cockpit), U-2R (analog instrumentation), and NASA ER-2.

The aircraft has detailed avionics, 470+ failures, persistence and wear and tear functionality. There are 35 pages simulated for the glass cockpit variant, RADNAV system, INS, Stormscope, and surveilance systems including an optical camera, terrain radar, weather sensor. There are supporting units too like different chase cars from different eras.

The aircraft is being accompanied by scenery as well with the U2 Package including RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, RAF Fairford, UK, Groom Lake, USA (1960s configuration), Patrick Space Force Base (NASA flights), and a Fictional airstrip in northern Finland (for USSR flyover missions).

If you have Miltech’s Mission Hub, you can also experience 15 missions.

Look for that to arrive soon!

  2. It’ll be interesting to see how the Dash 8 turns out, and I’m very interested in all the mil variants, esp since they’ll have at least a few missionized interior cabins, too.

I REALLY hope they up their game on flight models as they’ve been a bit lackluster IMHO – particularly when compared to other top tier devs. Plus, the Dash has some interesting and uncommon handling characteristics due to that short chord wing planform.

    Cautiously optimistic! 🤙

Now the U-2 is a different story, and one I find especially compelling (mainly for historical and technology reasons).

I can only recall one flight sim addon for it in any sim, and that one was far below par even back then.

Seeing how much work is going into this one, with the 2 variants, handful of relevant base sceneries, functional sensors, and even pre-packaged missions, all with a sub-$40 price – simply a deal I can’t pass up.
