New Bf109G-4 ‘Taman Bridgehead’ worth checking out!

I just played the first mission from Sampson’s campaign remake (a specialty of his) of the ‘Taman Bridgehead’ campaign from the original IL-2 series. The recently released Scripted Campaign for IL-2: Battle of Kuban is worth checking out!

Over the Taman Bridgehead

In the late summer of 1943, German forces in the Kuban region had been pushed back into the Taman Peninsula. Blocked in by the Azov Sea in the north and the Black Sea in the south their only route of escape was the Kerch Strait. Alternatively units attempted to stem the tide against a growing offensive by Soviet troops.

This campaign currently features the Bf109G-4 and will also offer alternate versions later with the Bf109G-6 (Collector Plane) when it arrives. Sampson also says that a P-39L-1 version of the campaign could be offered too.

The first mission has a nice open ended feel to it where you’re given a battle area to patrol and how you approach that area is up to you. High or low, your exact entry into the space, and your whole flight plan is entirely you.

I’m not 100% sure yet but I think if I were to replay the mission and head to a different location I’d have a different experience.

So far there have been plenty of enemy aircraft and some friendlies flying around on different missions so the mission spaces feel far from empty.

So my big question is the future Coop mode. Will it work with campaigns missions. If it does it sold be great for me and my friends. We are a small group and don’t really have the time ( or talent) to create new missions.

Do you have any idea if this is possible?

  I haven’t heard anything on how the missions will work.
  
  My guess is that they won’t work with campaign missions by default, however, I expect that 1CGS will ship with a bunch of co-op missions already laid out and I can see many Scripted Campaign authors working on co-op versions of their campaign if there is a demand.
  
  One thing I do know from my limited experience with the mission builder so far is that you need to build your mission around the co-op concept from the start or retrofit it in later.

I have limited experience with co-op mode in Rise of Flight, but, I remember Pat Wilson’s Campaign Generator had an option to make the missions co-op. Don’t know if that feature exists in the version for IL2 BOX, and considering that co-op hasn’t really been in BOX yet, I can guess the answer, however, I imagine that it would be something Pat could add back in.

  I’m sure Pat’s campaign generator will be able to do it here. So that’s one route for sure. I’m sure there will be many avenues that open up as the feature is released.
  
  Scripted Campaigns themselves were a little sparse at first but things picked up and we now have dozens at the very least.
