We’ve been waiting to hear about VKB’s next grip for quite a while now and we finally have our first images of the new grip attached to a Gladiator base. Presenting to you, the VKB Kosmosima – a space sim oriented joystick that looks to be just as useful for flight sim enthusiasts.
Suitable for space, or atmosphere
A post by rrohde on the VKB North America forums gave us our first look and first detailed pieces of information on this new grip.
The grip, independent of base and suitable for use on the Gunfighter and Gladiator Pro bases, was primarily designed for fans of space sims. Elite: Dangerous and Star Citizen have helped boots the joystick market a fair bit in recent years and the knock-on effect for flight sim fans is the opening up of new options.
Coming in both left and right handed (this is more for space sim fans) variants, the Kosmosima appears to have a good selection of buttons. There appears to be three hats on the top of the stick, plus the front trigger and a secondary trigger on the top with another thumb hat on the left (or right).
The Kosmosima will also have a built in twist functionality for people who don’t have rudder pedals.
Here are some of the details quoting from the post:
- Comes in both left- and right-handed versions (SCG-L and SCG-R)
- Both have a contactless twist adapter built-in by default (can be hard-locked via screw)
- Compatible with Gunfighter and Gladiator Pro bases
- Both have two LED indicators; one single-color, the second RGB (operation of the LED indicators can be customized via software)
- Both have dual-stage triggers
- All hat switches on both grips have push functionality, and one can toggle between analog/digital mode via long push
- Both come with a detachable palm rest
- Planned retail price is less than $99 (per grip)
Forgetting about the primary target audience for this, VKB’s new grip here is actually a pretty comprehensive package combining a lot of features that I tend to look for in a stick. The twist functionality, multiple hat switches, push functionality on the hats, and a dual stage trigger are a great collection of features.
Right now, we have no information on the details of when his product will release. It is very clearly further along than when we first heard about the TECS throttle (still no new info on that) as the stick actually exists in photos rather than renders. Pricing is planned for $99 USD too. Hopefully we’ll have an official announcement and availability planned sooner than later.
Other VKB news
Availability has been a huge problem for VKB recently as products then to sell out quickly and production numbers remain low. VKB has, in my experience, made some really good products and the demand is certainly there if they can shore up some additional production.
Some of the Gunfighter and Gladiator Pro II items are back temporarily in stock right now on the VKB North American store. So too are the KG12 and MCG grips in a variety of configurations.
