For the last year I have immensely enjoyed the DCS focused videos of the fictional mercenaries for hire ‘Grim Reapers‘ squadron with all of their multiplayer co-operative antics. It is with troubling news that we’ve learned that Grim Reapers leader Jonathan “Cap” Terrell has taken ill with cancer.
A community rallies to help
In darker times like these it is great to see a community rally together to provide support and that has absolutely happened here.
On August 1st, Cap posted a video to the Grim Reapers YouTube channel with an update on his status and how things were going.
That was then followed up by a couple more videos with the full story on how things were going and what he was facing. The news is unfortunately that he’s facing late stage cancer and will be undergoing 9-weeks of treatment.
A GoFundMe has been setup to support Cap in this time of need with a projected goal of raising $5000. In the 2-days that this GoFundMe has been active, it has already achieved and surpassed the original goal and has raised $5,245 at the time of this writing.
I think that helps underscore or highlight the incredible generosity shown by the flight sim and DCS communities. Not everyone has been able to (or is able to) donate but between that and the messages shared on YouYube, Reddit, and on the forums, I think Cap is getting about as much support as we can muster. It’s outstanding and its not the first time I’ve seen our community show incredible generosity and provide such powerful moral support.
Back to Cap and his story, where the latest word is that the prognosis is looking to be positive and I want to take this opportunity to wish Cap all the best with a smooth and successful treatment and recovery. Show cancer the door and beat this thing!
