Deka Ironworks JF-17 update

It’s a small update but one promising bigger things coming in 2019 with our first updated view on the work being done on the JF-17 cockpit for the eventual release of the DCS: JF-17 Thunder module for DCS World.

This single developer update screenshot shows us how the JF-17 cockpit is coming together. Although it doesn’t stand out in a world full of extremely detailed cockpits, it’s been made clear that this is still very much a work in progress and there will be no doubt some additional art passes on this cockpit as time goes on.

More importantly we do get a chance to see some of the various pieces of the cockpit coming together. The navigation system, the nearly all glass-cockpit configuration and the realistically spartan controls are all features of the JF-17.

Deka Ironworks has also indicated that we’ll be hearing more from them in the new year with an early access plan. Should be interesting!

      Deka reports that they are building a 2010 Block I model. The most recent versions are Block III with AESA radar and I very much doubt we’ll see anything to do with that for quite some time.

    I’m a bit confused, if Deka Ironworks is based in Beijing, why did they choose the Pakistani appellation and not the Chinese? Both are out of the current DCS theatres anyway.

    I suppose the Pakistani version has a western cockpit and the Chinese is much more difficult to read, which could be a concern? The Russian cockpits use Cyrillic labels, which isn’t that hard since it’s close to the Greek alphabet and thus not that far from ours, but a Chinese one would probably be a few steps beyond… if that is the reason, it must have been some dilemna for them.

      I think it’s because it’s the variant in military service. Afaik the Chinese don’t have this plane in service, only for the export market.

        It’s very likely the export nature of the JF-17/FC-1 that makes it even a possibility for inclusion in DCS World at this stage.

        Ah OK, so there are no actual FC-1 airplanes except probably prototypes and test units, and their only product instances are the JF-17 delivered to Pakistan?
        That’s not a common situation.

    Block III is worlds away, the Block II is more Pakistani produced and will likely be their main variant in the near term so that makes sense.

    No indication China will use it: they have the developed J-10 so a different fighter in this class is a little pointless. Essentially it is their first export-oriented design. Pakistan in heading efforts to sell this to Nigeria and there are a few other potential targets at present.

      It’s certainly an interesting aircraft. I’d love to know more of the backstory but it does seem to be an interesting mix of Chinese and Pakistani design and electronics but with an English cockpit (from what I’ve seen) and at least some western influence in the design – or at least that’s what I can see.

      I think it’s going to be one of the more unique entrants in DCS World when it arrives on scene.
