It’s been months since Co-op multiplayer was added to the IL-2: Great Battles Series, however, the mode hasn’t yet achieved that critical mass where players hold regular co-op missions. That may begin to change with a new utility by IL-2 forum contributor Vander who has just released version 4 of his brand new IL-2 Simple Coop Mission Generator.
Creating a new co-op mission, simply
One of the greatest challenges in IL-2 is not the flying but in the creation of new missions and that makes creating new and interesting co-op missions an issue over time. Eventually a wide selection of co-op missions will become available but we need something that can do a little of everything. Enter Vander’s new mission generator. It’s designed to be simple yet versatile with the ability to generate different mission types and feature both PvE and PvP possibilities.
The generator is set to work on the Stalingrad map only right now, however, Vander does intend to expand that functionality to other maps.
This utility is very much in its infancy but its the kind of supporting feature that, in the absence of something from 1CGS (who have their hands full), will add a lot of extra ability and… fun to the experience. There’s also more that this utility will eventually be able to do:
I am starting with a simple GUI, but the underlying scripts can do more so this will be improved over time. Enemy/friendly bomber & patrol flights, vehicle columns, ships, AAA, cloud patterns etc. will be randomly chosen.

I haven’t personally had a chance to try it out but I am hoping to get some more IL-2 co-op gameplay in sooner than later and this utility should definitely aid in that experience.
Finally, I wanted to add that although I rarely talk about where I read something before I bring the news to you, I did want to mention that I read about this new Coop Mission Generator first on Two More Weeks. Two More Weeks is a a DCS and IL-2 news site that has, until recently been on hiatus. They are back and you should definitely check the site out.
