Leatherneck Simulations show off more F4U Corsair

Though it has been teased a few times over the last few months we’ve never seen Leatherneck Studios’ DCS: F4U-1D Corsair put together as a complete package much less in-engine. That’s what they have just done now!

Soft reveal

I call this a ‘soft reveal’ as we get our first look at their work on the Corsair without us getting too close to the aircraft to really see the details. I can imagine that we’ll see more of this aircraft over the coming months as Leatherneck works to finish the module and make it available.

At this point we don’t know much about a projected release date, however, they have been working on and planning the Corsair for a while (before the CEII was finished to be sure). That they have it flying in-engine can only be a good thing.

A few people have been asking about a map for this module and as near as I can tell we’re looking at the DCS: Persian Gulf map. Supposedly a Pacific themed map, possibly Iwo Jima, has been floated as future content addition.

      With a little luck, perhaps both DCS and IL-2 series will head that way. It appears that, based on some leaks, that DICE and Battlefield V are heading that way too.

    I was interested in the idea but not anymore since they announced it will be an F4U-1D. I would have bought it if it was an F4U-4, could have been used for both WW2 and Korean War scenarios…

      This does seem to be focused on the Pacific in WWII rather than Korea. That said, its not impossible for Leatherneck to turn their F4U-1D into a F4U-4 or -5 and that may yet happen. DCS could go for a Korean War scenario as they have the building blocks of that aircraft set already – but we don’t seem to see much of a focus right now on any one thing.

        An F4U-1A would be MUCH easier to implement. All they would need to do is swap out the canopy for the partially framed one, and remove the rocket stubs and wing pylons (although they’d also need to add the wing fuel tanks; the F4U-1D only had the fuselage tank).

        The -4 and -5 would require significantly more remodeling, especially around the cowling.

    while DCS ww2 Carrier ops would be awesome the price of modules will cause them issues… as you need at least 3 aircraft for each side A dive bomber a Torpedo bomber and a fighter. thats alot of money to be useful. I think the real shame is that 1CG balked at the Pacific theater .
