The wait has been long but its nearly over as 1CGS is preparing the Me262 jet fighter for release as part of IL-2: Battle of Bodenplatte and that release is apparently scheduled to happen in the next three weeks. I’ve also learned a little more about what will be at the 1CGS/IL-2: Great Battles Series booth at Flight-Sim Expo 2019!
Two bi-planes and a jet fighter
As it happens, the S.E.5a and Albatross D.Va make strange bedfellows with the word’s first operational jet fighter but that is exactly what is planned by the 1CGS team. In addition to forum and website updates, 1CGS maintains a newsletter and according to the latest newsletter the Me262, S.E.5a and Albatross D.V.a are all expected to arrive in the next two or three weeks.
The two bi-planes of course continue to add to the final collection for Flying Circus Vol 1 (with just two more aircraft planned for Vol 1 following their release) but it is the Me262 that is most exciting. The Messerschmitt jet fighter was the world’s first operational jet fighter and its also the first jet aircraft coming to the IL-2: Great Battles Series and with it come a host of flight and engine modeling.
Though the Me262 commanded an impressive performance potential above and beyond the typical WWII fighter, it wasn’t without its foibles and its jet engines were both its greatest strength and its weakness. How 1CGS chooses to represent that will be fascinating.
Flight-Sim Expo setup
1CGS is going to be at Flight-Sim Expo 2019 in Orlando Florida and they are bringing with them some interesting gear. What am I talking about? Until a few minutes ago I had never heard of the Edge 6D by Gforcefactory but a quick look at their website and their technology has me very excited to check this out. Have a look!
Coverage of Flight-Sim Expo 2019 will be continuing over the next few weeks so stay tuned for updates before, during and after! If you’re at the show make sure to check out booth 515 for the IL-2 experience.
UPDATED: May 16, 2019 at 11:46 PM EST – Clarified that the Me262 was the world’s first “operational” jet fighter.
