VIRPIL’s product offensive continues with their new WarBRD and ACE rudder pedals as well as their new V.F.X going up on pre-order. We still lack a few details but today’s announcement reveal a whole bunch of new details about V.F.X including a new Z-axis lock-out option.
V.F.X for Tomcat fans

Although VIRPIL can’t say it explicitly in their announcement, its pretty clear that the V.F.X is inspired by the F-14 Tomcat’s grip. Although its not a 1-to-1 representation, all the buttons and features are there and that means that fans of DCS: F-14 will probably have a lot to like about this grip and how it will interact with their favourite DCS module.
We’ve learned a bunch of new things today surrounding the V.F.X:
- Dual-stage trigger
- 4-way weapon select w/ push
- DLC thumbwheel axis – spring loaded return to the center (Contactless digital sensor)
- Paddle lever axis w/ physical push button at 100% (Contactless digital sensor)
- 8-way ungated POV hat w/ push
- 3 x momentary push buttons
- All metal twist axis (Contactless digital sensor)
- Twist axis lockout
- Compatible with all VPC bases
- Compatible with TMW base (Twist axis, Paddle lever and DLC thumbwheel will respond as buttons)
Every axis input is a digital contactless sensor which sounds great. So does VIRPIL’s compromise on the Z-axis which will let people lock-out the Z-axis twist function if they don’t want to use it. If you own rudder pedals, deactivate the Z-axis and away you go. Sounds great in concept and hopefully it’s good in practice.
WarBRD and Ace pedals

VPC WarBRD Rudder Pedal
VPC ACE-2 with standard foot pedal
VPC ACE-1
VPC ACE-2 with combat style pedal accessory
Completing the trio of product types for a flight sim hardware maker, VIRPIL is preparing to sell their first batch of the WarBRD and ACE series pedals. Three versions are going to be available which will give an array of price and options depending on what you’re looking for.
- WarBRD Rudder Pedals – 1-axis pedals designed for a simpler setup or for helicopter pilots.
- VPC ACE-1 – 3-axis pedals with adjustable full foot pedal platform with toe brakes.
- VPC ACE-2 – 3-axis pedals with accessory option that turns them into “combat-style pedal platform.” Also has toe brakes.
That’s quite a range of options.
Pricing and pre-order on 21st of June
Final pricing and the opening of VIRPIL’s pre-order program for these products opens on June 21st at 6PM GMT (2pm ET). VIRPIL has responded to a number of criticisms of their first pre-order program and have instituted several new guidelines and rules both for how they will handle payment from pre-orders and how stock will be allocated.
