Microsoft Flight Simulator continues the slow trickle of information including a new screenshot and details on their Tech Alpha. Let’s have a quick look at the latest!
Grass? Yes, grass!
It doesn’t matter much from 30,000 feet up but if you’re flying low and slow, it pays to have the details right and Flight Simulator is showing off a new image that shows off their procedurally generated grass to good effect.

The whole scene is also delightfully moody and we also see how reflections, water, cloud shadows, and that previously mentioned grass all come together in a scene. Get this working on your “average” high end PC and I think we’ll be in for something special.
Tech Alpha
Flight Simulator is about to enter into a Tech Alpha process which will give us an early look at the sim in development. Here’s the latest roadmap:
Tech Alpha Timeline
- October 10: Release testing complete. Lock final delivery schedule.
- October 17: Build release preparation.
- October 24: Release window opens.
A few lucky souls will hopefully be looking at the new release by October 24. Meanwhile you can still try and get in via a sign-up here. I also recommend becoming an insider because there are more screenshots and videos in there that are absolutely jaw dropping.
